I've removed some gaps with Albumeasy I will admit. The airmail variation in Algeria for one, I can't even see the font change so I am not chasing it. And for the French Morocco B1, only one sheet know at $25,000+ each I printed my own copy and filled it in that way, But I am considering removing it. For Algeria it was complete as far as I collect except for the variation so it was an easy decision and I like paging through the album with no holes now . For French Morrocco there are still some gaps in the rest of the issues but if I ever fill all then in I think the copy will go and Albumeasy will take care of the hole for B1.
I still have the holes for B1-3 in my Berlin and I don't think I will revove them, but the White Ace pages for Ryukyus Is are numbered and I have so far resited the temptation to tear up the page that holds 16 and 17. I am within 6 other stamps to complete that country so that page is in a lot of jeapordy as well.
There are a few others that are holding onto their location on the page by a thread as the counrty nears completeness otherwise. It's an ongoing challenge of where to draw the line that the rest of the missing issues I won't be getting and call the country complete. Once that's done the remaining holes will likely be fed to Albumeasy as far as I'm concerned.

I stopped using an stamp album over forty years ago, now I only use Vario Stock Sheets in place of an album.
I used to make album pages, but these took too much time.
I found a stamp album to confining.
Using Vario stock sheets have made my collection much more enjoyable.
I do not mind gaps, if the right stamp comes along at a price I'm willing and able to pay, then the gap gets filled.
I make up my own pages for certain parts of the collection (like Machins). I use Steiner pages for most else, but usually ignore the souvenir sheet pages, as I collect used not mint. A blank page is fine for the used off of those sheets.
Varios are too expensive to use on common stamps, and with some of the odd sizes within sets, especially Canada, would leave a lot of wasted space at a greater cost than card stock.
For mint Machins and perhaps older, more valuable GB, I use mounts.
Each to his own is the only way to go, nobody's system will suit everyone.
My collection is housed in stockbooks and printed albums with the odd album of Steiner pages.
I buy mixed boxes at various auction houses and that is how I have accquired the printed albums at much reduced prices. Countries include France, Germany, Berlin, Bosnia Herzogovena, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Great Britain and Jersey to name a few.
Over time these albums are filled with stamps from other mixed boxes or purchased from other sources.
I know that some of these countries will never be completed but its fun trying and you never know what you will find in a mixed box.
The best find in a mixed box was 6 Penny Blacks in a glassine tucked in a corner of the box (obviously missed by the auction house and me until I got it home). Not Bad for £40 and I still had several albums and other loose stamps in addition.
No matter what or how you collect just have some fun and enjoy!

Yes the Morocco collection is by far more difficult, and I have no hope or ambition to find a few of the missing ones! Never seen a B1 or B3. Only saw the #24-25 once at prohibitive prices. The Cherifen Post (Scott A1A12 are a real challenge too.).
I still have gaps in postage due, but these are feasible. But I like looking at the gaps. And eternally being an optimist.
C4A Algeria bought HERE at Stamporama! After a very long wait!
Gaps do not bother me. I am creating custom Machin pages too and will include issues I will probably not ever get.
I consider purchasing Varios as an investment since they can always be repurposed unlike many stamp supplies.
For me in most things in life beauty is in the imperfections. I will live with gaps on that basis. I wonder if I won big on the lottery and filled the gaps, would it take some of the fun in collecting away?
"filled the gaps, would it take some of the fun in collecting away?"
Leave the gaps! I've never understood why collectors buy complete collections. Where's the thrill of the chase and the sense of achievement when the page is filled?
For all the "I'll never get one of those" stamps, there's a case for facsimiles and spacefillers if you must see a full page.
"having a picture of the missing one to cover the empty space."
Haven't run into this yet since I only buy lots very infrequently and usually from the same seller. I've never had a problem with Dan-the-stamp-man and have picked up great stuff. Thanks for the warning!!
To me these gaps are important - they tell me what's still out there that we have to look for. Of course for some of us mere mortals this is not always possible!! For example my Harris Canada album leaves spaces for #32 (only 3 known copies) and the Port Hood Provisionals, which are out of a normal price range. They also show the early, but very expensive, Newfoundland airmail issues. I've seen some posts where members have decided to do their own pages so that these type of gaps don't show up. I sort of equate this with ignoring "bad history" which I discuss in another post. Gaps, even unfillable ones, are important to me. In a weird sort of way a gap "shows" completeness!! Comments?
EDIT: We all have the right to collect in our own way, and that's a very very good thing!! I may not agree with the way you collect, but that's my right as well - as long as I don't get too obnoxious about it!!
