There is a message in French on the writing side no sign of postmarks..i think it may have been mailed in an envelope !
Good thing a sniper didn't drop a $100 last second bid!
Phil:

Just in case this happens again, be aware that you can retract erroneous bids on ebay.

Thanks for the replies..i had to trust it was on the up and up..i think it was and someone put in a top bid of 16.00. i guess there is a way to retract a bid on ebay after you confirm the amount but i did not find it. David here is the flip side !
Phil, that's a due on the upper right of the picture side, no?
Nope thats a standard postage stamp !

Nani says the lady with the sewing machine is wearing clothing typical of Batavia (now Jakarta). They are native house servants.

David
"Inlandsche huisbedienden" is Dutch for native house servants.
The letter is from a father to his son, who has done not that well in school and should try harder, otherwise his father will think he is a poor student and a bad boy...

I have a growing collection of Dutch Indies airmail covers and postcards..when i saw this one i put in a 3 dollar bid to keep an eye on it. I thought it was a 3 dollar bid but i actually typed in maximum bid 300 dollars! Well the deed was done..have to hope for the best. As it turned out i was hi bid at $16.50..a few bucks more than i normally would have bid..but i am happy to have it and it could have been worse !
