Here it is, 10 PM, eight hours after the first great clue and we don't have the first guess on board. Maybe we should offer up another hot clue to get someone to make a wild stab at it.
Good luck,
Mike
OK, here comes clue number 3.
Good luck with that!
Mike
All righty now, this is working out pretty good. What a lucky find with this stamp from _______, well now, I almost typed that in, but caught myself at the last instant. Whew that was a close call, I almost said ______________, but ----- darn I better just give a clue before I say something that will ruin this great MSQ.
Are you kidding me, or what? Is that really a clue? WOW, I'm glad I'm not trying to guess this stamp's ID.
Come on you pro's out there, let's hear from someone with at least a ball park guess!!!!
Mike
The first clue looks like a snake's skin. The last clue shows a partial oval cut into the stamp which makes me think Great Britain.
Antonio,
This is just for "your eyes only", no one else can read this secret message!!!!
Good guess, but sorry, no cigar. I kinda thought that first clue looked like a honeycomb, but I don't get paid to think, which is a good thing because it's not a honeycomb, at least I don't think it is.
I do however think that you might just be in the correct time frame, maybe off by one or so, but close anyway.
Mike
All right, one last clue before my beauty sleep.
This clue just knocks me out and I think it deserves a much closer look, especially since all of the clue are about the exact same size. If you like this clue, then you will love the next one.
Mike
Hey Mike - did you specialise in torture in a previous life?
Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, I am amazed, no, appalled you would even think I have taken many lifetimes to become such a low-down, dirty, rotten scoundrel, when in fact this is my only life, as a human.
Just for that I am showing another great clue, "For Your Eyes Only".
As promised in the last clue, you will love this one!
The clue on the right is much closer to the real size, but of course still enlarged a bit.
Mike
I leave y'all alone all day and not one person even makes a guess. Wow, this is a great stamp, isn't it?
OK, before I hit the rack, another fabulous glue to thrill you.
What, that can't possibly be an e, or could it? If this "dirty rotten scoundrel" is showing letters then I would bet they are not part of the name, cause he is just mean?
Good luck!!!
Mike
Since y'all don't seem to like that last clue either...................you probably will hate this one, even though I would rate it a Ten.
ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!
Mike
This, I believe, has been the longest running MSQ of them all, with only one teensy weensy little guess, OH, plus one snide remark about my previous lives. (I love it)
OK, let's make this a priority for ending tomorrow, on a happy note. In fact, since this is a priority, I will double the great prize that the winner will receive.
Good luck and don't forget this is a priority, for ending tomorrow!
Happy Easter to you all,
Mike
Looks like a Bee Hive
Happy Easter everyone, I'm amazed that there isn't even been a guess as to the identity of this MSQ, after those wonderful clues. Here's another great clue for you.
Good luck,
Mike
The reason why I don´t guess is I haven´t got a clue even though you´ve given quite a few
Peter, it appears that you are in an overloaded boat, since no one seems to "have a clue", even though I have given many wonderful clues and there have been over 300 hits on this message. You also seem to be fairly up close and personal. OK, you talked me into another wonderful clue, before that boat does a flip and so many people drowned.
OH, OH, it looks like an overturned boat. I sure hope there weren't many more than a couple thousand souls aboard. That many could be most of the SOR members.
Mike
324 hits and still nothing, Only one guess, one snide remark and one honest response. I love this stamp. There are going to be some mighty surprised folks when the identity of this stamp is finally shown and here is another good chunk of it. That reminds me, I could really go for a gooda chunk of cheese, righta bout now.
Good luck again,
Mike
Eedam, I'm cornfused, whatever happened to all of those brilliant minds that guessed the other MSQ's we've had? And I was wrong in the last posting, we have had two honest remarks, instead of one! Sorry Tin Man, I missed yours.
BTW, since no one gave a correct answer yesterday, the offer of doubling the prize has now gone bye-bye. Sorry! hahahaha
I have a feeling this next clue will put the cheese on the cracker, so to speak, even if it is a little disoriented, in fact let's do a double clue and see who can plug it in.
Hey, one of those clues looks like it might just say "Frigidaire", how can that be possible. (for those of you not in the U. S., Frigidaire is the name of an appliance manufacturer.)
Mike
Hmmm
Australia.
Ok - your wonderful clues have left me clueless - what hemisphere are we looking at? You don't even have to say which continent!
Smauggie, way off.
Kelly, does that tell you anything?
Yup - that eliminates one continent! LOL Thanks Mike - I'll keep trying to think
Oh good, one down only 5 to go.
When the number 400 shows up on the counter, I will put in another wonderful clue.
I'll give a clue (it might not be right but what the heck): priority mail
Hi Mike,
Netherlands 2000
either Scott 1051, 1052 or 1053
Merv
actually 1052
Merv
Merv,
Actually you are absolutely correct!!!!! Hallelujah, I thought this was never going to end, as I'm sure many of you were thinking the same thing.
Even with the gooda, eedam, Priority comments yesterday, I was getting concerned. I should never have been worried though.
CONGRATULATIONS MERV!!!
Thank you kind sir.
Congrats Merv!
Thanks, Kelly
Merv,
Whatever was the deciding factor in making the decision you did make, as to the identification of this stamp. I kept trying to give verbal clues, but couldn't just come out and give up too much info, now could I? I am really surprised that now one picked up on the "gooda or eedam" as Gouda and Edam cheeses that are named after cities in Amsterdam.
This is one of my favorite clues, with just the center of the zero showing.
And this one, with parts of the 110 as the clue.
this one of course does not say Frigidaire, but rather prioitaire, but I think it fooled some of you. Those blacked out areas didn't help much either, but that was the idea.
Great game everyone and thank you for your participation.
Mike
Mike,
I'm ashamed to say I missed both the cheese clues. The one I picked up on was this one
'this is a priority, for ending tomorrow!'. Sadly I spent a long time looking at/for Easter stamps since 'tomorrow' was Easter Sunday. Scott has a lot of Easter stamps!! (Not surprisingly none of which looked like your mystery one.)
The I remembered that about a month ago I started sorting my Dutch stamps into some sort of order, and that they had 'Priority' stamps and that one of them had a purple/dark blue band on the side, which meant a mad search through Scott Vol 4 (2009) - and No I haven't got this one.
By the way, I think that Edam and Gouda are not part of Amsterdam - they are separate towns/cities in The Netherlands, though Jan-Simon will probably tell me I am wrong.
Thanks for the MSQ.
Merv
You are absolutely right Merv!
Gouda and Amsterdam are about 50 kms apart. I can imagine that to an American that would indicate they are practically twin-cities, but over here that means Gouda is quite far away from Amsterdam
Edam is closer, only 25 kms. I suppose there are suburbs in the major American cities that are further away from the centre...
Jan, in Texas, those distances are considered to be in your back yard! I used to drive 50 kms one way just to go to work
In Texas everything is bigger, isn't it?
A World Famous Mystery Stamp Quiz put here by someone with an evil mind! Yes, that would me moi and I just found a wonderful stamp for this quiz. One and only rule: You must identify the stamp to leave no question as to it's identity. Yes, I did check the Scott's and Michel catalog's and this stamp is shown in both of them. BUT that's not going to make it any easier, because the clues that will be shown are very much enlarged, that should cause concern trying to reduce it down in your mind.
This stamp is not a "high value" stamp but the winner will receive that stamp plus something else very nice to go along with it.
Good luck everyone,
Mike
