Someone much younger than I. My letter of instructions has been modified many times over the years and all of my first choices are now unfortunately gone. I will be following this thread with great interest. I do have a list of places that I would not have my executor contact based on real life experiences of friends but it is not available for obvious reasons.
I actually think if money is the prime object it would be wise to dispose of it yourself. Many (perhaps most) dealers who make their living doing this consider their inventory their collection- and it is ever changing. It takes a lot of willpower.
Just my two cents

I've been told you can't take it with you, so..... alas, I will have to leave my collection behind for someone else to play with or cash out.
Back to seriousness: I too am interested in comments and suggestions from the wise members of this forum.
There are many auction houses that deal with collections for folks. If you go to Stamp Auction Network you can see many of these outfits. If your collection is specialized (usually by country) you can see those houses that do that. For instance, Vance Auctions handle a lot of Canada stamps.
Depends where you live, I suppose. My collection will go to Weeda Stamps in Victoria, British Columbia. I've known the owner, and before him the previous owners, for years, and have complete trust in their integrity and ability. While Weeda specialize sin Canadian philately, they offer a wide range of worldwide material in their monthly bid board auctions, from large box lots to individual stamp rarities.

Who says you can't take it with you?
Just an ugly rumor by those left behind to get your stamps!!!!
I intend to take it with me along with an bunch of other stuff!!!
You guys that leave it behind will be jealous of me on the other side!!!
I've chosen a dealer in Melbourne that I trust completely. I've worked for him and with him and know he has integrity. The only problem is that he's older than I am!
Great question oldguy.
Some good responses so far.
My only heir is my son who has no interest in my collection at this time. I made a list of dealers to stay away from, most have passed on though. Those who I trust and deal with have pretty much retired.
It depends on what you collect. For me, my main focus is US, that is where the value of my collection is. For that it’s Matt Kewriga, Kewriga Auctions in Virginia. If you are a member of the APS there is a service that can get you or your heirs in touch with an appraiser.
I also have the name of my auction agent with my collection directions in case I pass before I can sell off some of it.
There is a form on the Stamp Smarter website you can download and put it with individual parts of your collection showing the value and how to dispose of it.
I am in the process of “Swedish Death Decluttering”, that’s getting rid of a lifetime of collecting stuff my son doesn’t want and shouldn’t be burdened with disposing.

I have no family to pass things on to so I have an agreement with my local dealer. I trust Steve and his father Bob totally since I have been buying from them since the early 1970's. They sell my collection piecemeal, keeping a percentage and passing the rest on to charities of my choice. I have similar things set up for my comics and my glass collection. You have to be careful to have this spelled out in your will!!!

Suppose you left your collection to your estate. Who would you recommend that they use to evaluate the collection and the sell or dispose of it? Why them?
