hello again, can anyone please tell me what these overprints are? Thanks!
Guardia Nazionale Repubblicana ( Italian National Republican Guard )
Information grabbed from ebay, which in turn seems to be AI generated:
The Italian Social Republic (Italian: Repubblica Sociale Italiana, RSI), informally known as the Republic of Salò (Italian: Repubblica di Salò), was a state with limited recognition that was created during the later part of World War II, existing from the beginning of German occupation of Italy in September 1943 until surrender of German troops in Italy in April 1945.
The G.N.R. overprints were carried out in two locations: Verona (on 30.01.1944) and Brescia (on 20.12.1943). They can be distinguished from each other by the following features:
Verona - portrait format stamps: distance between G and N is 2.75 mm; landscape format stamps: distance between N and R is 3 mm.
Brescia - portrait format stamps: distance between G and N is 3.25 mm; landscape format stamps: distance between N and R is 2.75 mm.
Listed in the Unificato catalogue.
Just a remark based upon the appearance of the overprint: it could be a forgery. The stamps I have seen have a much sharper edge, this looks a bit blurry.
thank you!
B.L.P. = Buste Lettere Postal
Such overprinted stamps were issued in 1921/23.
They could be used only on advertisement letter cards,
what were sold discounted to the public for the benefit
of the war-damaged.
Pretty expensive,so forgeries are abundant !
thank you!
