Doesn't each listing have a unquite listing number.
Write down what listing numbers you are interested in, then make up your mind what lot(s) you are interested etc. and more etc.!
I don't think that this is a stupid suggestion, when I used to buy stamps from the approval section I fell victim to that practice too.
Learn my lesson well, now I do review the whole book before making a decision to buy or not.
I start at the end of the approval book and work my way to the beginning to avoid doing that. Doesn't work for every seller though.
I would take a quick look through the entire book before I purchased anything. No surprises that way.

This does not only apply to sets. Many times I have the same stamp more than once in a book. The used one may be a common stamp for 15 cents and appear on one of the first few pages of an approval book. The mint version of the same stamp may have a higher catalog value - so if it is selling for 40 cents it would appear towards the end of the approval book. Sometimes I may make a note about it in the approval book that there is a mint copy later in the book. I have had some buyers would asked me if they could give back the used version because they wanted the mint one instead. I have dropped the stamps from the invoice for them - if it is just a low value stamp and it is one or two - but I would not want to do that for too many stamps. The fact you can not have the stamps appear together on the same page because of the different sell price - is a common issue. In the old fashioned approval books sent in the mail the same stamps were next to each other with the different price noted beneath each one.
I was looking through a book this morning and noticed something. The seller had individual stamps from several series at the beginning of the book and full series later. If I had an interest in some of these stamps what I might have done was bought some of the individual stamps early in the book and then cursed myself later when the entire series showed up. I'm not blaming the seller for this but I do have a suggestion. This might not be possible to program but what if each sale from a book had a 10 minute time limit during which we could easily cancel the sale with a couple easy steps. I know we could always contact the seller but it might not be possible for him/her to easily re-post the stamp I want to cancel. If this is a stupid suggestion or too hard to program please ignore this post!!
