Does anyone have a current Yvert catalog for Syria that can provide content related to the issues cataloged as 30c, 31c, 32e, and 33d? These are air mail issues with a combination of green and red overprints as found on Syria Scott #'s C26-C29 for the green overprint and C30-C33 for the red overprint but showing both overprints on the Yvert cataloged issues with numbers 30c, 31c, 32e, and 33d.

re: Yvert Catalog Details for Syria 1925 Issues

Here are the listings from my 2005 edition of Yvert-Tellier, the stamps with both overprints are not listed. Perhaps they were not officially issued:

However, I find the listings from the 1966 Sanabria World Airmail Catalog (the last complete edition published) much more useful. The stamps you posted are listed (Sanabria #37-40), and it is stated that there were only 200 sets so overprinted! Perhaps this was a trial printing, and they then determined that using 'AVION' and the airplane overprint was duplicitous? I hope this will be of help...

re: Yvert Catalog Details for Syria 1925 Issues

The information from the Sanabria catalog is a huge help. Apparently at least one catalog from Yvert does list the variety with both overprints since catalog numbers apparently exist. My 1962 Yvert three part catalog doesn't list the variety nor does your significantly later 2005 catalog. I am unsure whether there is a specialized catalog for French Colonies (including Syria) from Yvert that lists more varieties which is what I am expecting.

I am still looking for additional resources. I wonder whether the Yvert version of the Scott Classic catalog might have more detail? Hopefully a resource will provide more detail soon. Happy

If my French is adequate enough, I would say the footnote after no. 33 says that the stamps 30-33 exist with the overprints of 26-29 (value 140 each, that is euros i presume?)

re: Yvert Catalog Details for Syria 1925 Issues

A careful reading by me concurs with your interpretation although I continue to search for a resource which confirms in print the catalog numbers I saw in an auction description for the items with detail on the actual catalog and the specific content. My admitted limited French knowledge (one year each of high school and college which have seen virtually no exercise in the past 50+ years) is being severely strained. During my attempts to locate further details on Yvert’s catalogs it seems that Yvert’s web site content is currently under attack by hackers which is providing further challenges. The discovery process continues!

re: Yvert Catalog Details for Syria 1925 Issues

Web site issues appear to have been resolved at least when checked through my computer rather than through my phone so maybe the issue on the phone presentation was caused by a misinterpretation of a sequence of pop-ups that were occurring on the phone which were based on an overzealous protection issue by the phone vendor. Now to wade through the site!

Found that there is a new specialized French Colonies and French Offices Abroad catalog from Yvert for 2025 that has been published while the Yvert Classiques catalog for 1840-1940 currently available was released in 2020. And now the magic question is whether anyone on the site has already acquired these catalogs?

Those numbers are not in the 2020 Classiques, either. The 2020 listing is not materially different in content from the excerpt added by Terry.

re: Yvert Catalog Details for Syria 1925 Issues

Thanks for the results from the Yvert Classiques caralog. Now just need to see what is present in the Yvert French Colonies and Foreign Offices 2025 catalog. Looks like it is going to cost about $100 to order it and get it shipped to the USA.

I do like that the Yvert catalog often includes known quantities printed. If I don’t win a lot in tomorrow’s auction I will probably go ahead with the catalog purchase early next week.

I asked on a French site about these stamps.
The numbers are correct and can be found in the specialized catalog for colonies.
The value is 415 /275 E each (MNH/MH)

I have the 2025 Colonies and the Semi-Moderne 1940-1960 en route, and I'd be happy to share a few tidbits with you upon arrival. (In case you don't want or need a copy of your own.)

re: Yvert Catalog Details for Syria 1925 Issues

I would be very interested in the information content related to Syria, especially up to 1963 with a special interest in the period between 1918 and 1930.

Jerrel

P.S. I did happen to win the Great Britain lot that I had bid on which will be enough that I will need to delay the catalog order. Both Happy and Sad .

I will order the catalog by the end of the coming week as I find myself very intrigued in the expanded coverage for the area based on the snippets I have received.
