And that period included the most important Jewish holy day, a Saturday and Sunday, and a federal holiday, all the while traipsing through Hurricane ravaged country.

I'm assuming the moratorium on planes remains in effect

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Wasn't that once the proud slogan of the USPS?

So maybe the ho-hum of everyday processing/delivery makes them lethargic and they need adverse/unusual circumstances to really step up the service? I can certainly relate to that!

And on the flip side, posted West New York, September 13th, arrived in my post box today in Manitoba. Had Global forever stamp, air mail sticker, correctly addressed.
Postmark was across the bottom of the envelope so stamp not franked.

Perhaps we should be using soviet union stamps, to reflect the actual "efficiency" of our "free world" postal systems.

Delivery times usually depend on local factors in addition to the long haul routes. For example, mail from Florida to NY could faster than NC to Mississippi. Delivery times to my dad have increased 3 or more days even when mailed priority.

Here in Florida, we have the St. Petersburg black hole. Any mail that you receive going through that facility take 2-3 days longer. I can mail something to the east coast (the other direction from here) and it frequently is in the recipients mailbox in less than 48 hours.

I'm waiting on something now from Kentucky and the guy says he mailed it on Oct. 22nd. This is what I'm seeing.. is that even possible? That would put it at something like 11 to 14 mailing days. Do you think he "forgot" or just got busy and just mailed it?

re: Remarkable turnaround

I’m getting return to senders of first class mail with perfectly legit and legible addresses. I have one that came back today, postmarked at my hub in Wilmington DE on Nov 7th. Went to Mobile AL to a post office box. Hand marked “vac”. Today is Nov 1st. The eBay buyer wanted a refund last week.

I got another one mailed in February to Ohio. Funny thing, this guy never complained. Both will go back out tomorrow. Maybe they’ll do better this time.
