I am sure i am not the only one with at least one of these in their lot.

French Vignettes are hugely attractive from the olden days, the golden age of Poster stamps. But we can include modern ones here too.

Whatever takes your fancy !! Happy

Many years ago a plot of land belonging to the Royal Palace was given to the City of Paris on condition that it was used for Philately and collecting. Since then a Stamp market has been held just off the Champs Elysee three times a week until today, even during the war years.

And here it is !! The 'Marche aux Timbres' (La Bourse aux Timbres) as depicted on these 'Aide aux Artistes' Poster stamps from 1942-44.

Before I got interested in Cinderella's some of these French ones ended up on my desk. I had no idea what to do with them so I sold them. Probably way too cheap but hey, one man's junk is another man's treasure.

I used to sell mine too in the early days of Cinderella collecting ! But I grew to appreciate them and they are now one of my main topics of interest.

So while I am here.........

An attractive set from 1914 advertising the world's oldest Cinderella Stamp Club, 'L'Arc en Ciel' and their address at the time which is still a focal point for Philately in Paris, even today.

re: French Poster Stamps and other Cinderellas.

Many Poster stamps have been issued for the exhibitions held in France and her Colonies. One such 'Exposition' brought together France and the French Colonies in an extravaganza of culture, people and wares, 'Exposition Nationale Coloniale'.

In 1922 this event was held in Marseille in the South of France. The Poster stamps you see here were issued in special booklets of which most were broken up for sales of sets or singles.

Printed in sheets of 12 they depict Colonial Headdress and there were 20 sheets to a booklet. But not all the sheets were the same. Indeed it is quite possible that they were all different !! Surprise

The head and headdress were all in the same position on the sheet but the colours and inscription fonts changed giving the stamps a truly special feel. The sheet below has been removed from the booklet along the perforations so is missing the selvedge.
I have added a few singles from other sheets so you can compare the changes. It is not known how many different types exist.
But there is more !!
The printers' imprint (Imp. Regionale Marseille) appears on one stamp, below the design, on the sheet. But not every sheet.......and not on the same stamp in the sheet. On my sheet you can see the Imprint on the top left stamp. One could collect only the Imprints for each stamp !!

A beautiful souvenir, easy to find the singles but less so the sheets. But will one ever be complete ?? Probably not !
