Yes, I made the move to Discord, reluctantly, when they first said that they were migrating there.
There is a learning curve, but I kept plodding through it over time.
Just yesterday, I came to the realization that I had finally figured out the little tricks I need in order to be able to (relatively) quickly get caught up on the new posts and replies.
So, imo, just jump in there, and eventually it'll become a less cumbersome experience.
My concern is that I don't see many former regular HS posters from the old forum.
I see more familiar names on there nearly every day, so hopefully that'll become less of a problem as people acclimate to it. (fingers crossed)
I sell on Hipstmp and went to Discord as well. So far I do not like it. The screen seems so messy and I am never sure where I should be looking. I get emails that I have messages sent to me there and I can never find anything. I think they are just general posts to a category I posted on. I am always logged on when I go there now and just found out how to log off if I want to - it took awhile to even figure that out... It is hard to figure out what is new in the various categories - they are not all listed together for me. Steve
I've been on Hipstamp and it's previous iterations since 2007. Hate Discord, it was developed as a gamer chat room for teens. Less than 3 per cent of participants are over 65. Everything Steve notes is spot on. Huge waste of time IMO but I committed to wade in and use it UNTIL ..........
Scott Payton (former partner of the late Bill Weiss - expertizer), who shared a wealth of knowledge with forum members, posted that he was not going to be a regular on the forum as the format was poor for our use. He provided his email address to those of us who wanted to receive the packages he put together for identification of Washington-Franklins and other hard to identify stamps. It was deleted along with posts that in any way disagreed with Hip's decision.
I will not be a party to the destruction of shared knowledge (what SOR is all about) or needless censorship - it is mean spirited and just plain wrong. No idea what Mark is thinking but it was a move right out of the totalitarian Stampboards. Heavily involved with family matters right now so I will use what little spare time I can find to list on Hipstamp and perhaps start to put books together for SOR at some point.
Just my opinion - your mileage may vary.
Web....I feel the same. A couple of my posts disappeared as well as Scott's. Why in the world Mark would pick that engine is beyond me. BTW....I too get emails saying I have a message, and go to Discord only to find no messages. Very very disappointed!
BTW, if you have Scott'd email would you message me?
It sounds like the site deserves the name “Discord”.
I will summarize my feelings as a user, as kindly as I can: I HATE it!
Do you all have this black background, or can I edit it? Visually it is painful. Functionally, let me not get started...
rrr...
Ralph, through your user settings (you know, the gear icon), you can change the background to a lighter color. I've found that helps quite a bit. Or is at least a good first step.
Discord is definitely not a suitable platform for the types of discussions conducted on stamp boards such as this one. On Discord, you may not have any need for the information given in a particular post right now, but you may want to refer back to it at a later time. Good luck finding it again.
HS recently shut down their old forum and moved to Discord. If there are HS sellers on this site...have you joined Discord, and if so, what has been your experience?
