I don't think the Swiss stamp is Scott #18. The impression is much too rough. The 1854 set stamps have a fine impression.
I believe the stamp is either Scott #29 if it has maroon silk threads, or Scott #40 (green) / #40b (yellow green) if it has green silk threads.
I think it is genuine. I find nothing for that stamp as being forged or counterfeited.
This is my copy of the stamp in question, it seems to have an imbedded green silk thread in the paper.
.
Interesting, thank you guys for the info.
I have looked at the back and there is a thin spot, but also a brownish horizontal line. Could that be the silk thread, making it a #29?
Could be, I have some other CH stamps from that era and they show the line in different colors.
Id-ing the color of the thread has aways been the tough part.

Today I received a batch of stamps with all kinds of interesting and unusual stuff. Two stamps stood out, because if they were the real thing, they would be quite valuable. I think they are forgeries though, although I do not have the background information and knowledge to prove this. Perhaps one of you knows how to identify a fake?
The stamps are Sicily (Neapolitan provinces) 1861, 50 g grey with inverted head (Scott 27, Michel 8a, SG 23) and Switzerland Sitting Helvetia ("Strubel") 1854, 40 rappen (Michel 17, Scott 18, SG 28). Scott explicitly warns for the inverted head forgeries...
