Truly makes ya wonder!
In the good ole days we had the same first class rate for decades!
Didn't it just go up to 60 cents?
DeJoy had stated that the first class rates would be increasing gradually over time so expect more to come. It is becoming an annual event to have holiday surcharges.
But thankfully DeJoy's term is coming to an end.
I found this on the net:
The position is selected by the Board of Governors of the Postal Service, whose members are appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate. The serve seven year terms. The Postmaster General's office has no fixed term, meaning that DeJoy can serve as long as the Board of Governors approves.Aug 24, 2022
Maybe I am weird, but it annoys me they don't start just rounding up to the nearest 5 cents.
A letter in Canada is 92¢, the USA was $1.27, now I think it is $1.30 now and $2.71 for everywhere else.
Their app gives the rate to mail a letter or parcel, but once again the price includes tax. First time I used their app, tax was included in the total cost. Then not. Now tax is included again. I wish they'd give the cost without tax, with tax added on the side. It's really annoying!

" ... The Postmaster General's office has no fixed term, meaning that DeJoy can serve as long as the Board of Governors approves.Aug 24, 2022 ..."
Yes.
The current administration has to fill two or three vacant seats to have a majority. I think getting the approval of the senate is the hold up. Perhaps no one wants the job, or the blame for raising prices again.

" ... a total of about 10% or a 20% annual inflation rate. ..."
In the mid-late 1950s the raise from 2¢ to 3¢, was a 50% increase.
I think the inflation rate was a pretty flat.
To do that now, a 50% increase would have been 58¢ + 29¢ to 87¢.
Or 60¢ +30¢ to 90¢.
Imagine the screams that would bring.
How about the service ? My mail gets delivered by temps, if its raining i can expect no mail.
I did not see anyone posting this yet here. I just read that the US postal rates are increasing once again on January 22, 2023. The forever stamp first class postage will go from 60 cents to 63 cents. The international rate goes from $1.40 to $1.45. Most of the other rates are going up as well. I absorbed the previous rate increases without changing my shipping terms but I think I will have to increase them with this new increase. Steve
