I know that the U.S. has issued a few. The year before or after the Hendrix stamp was the Janis Joplin issue. A strip of early rockers came out in the 90’s. I’m sure that some bands were on some of the celebrate the century series in 99-00.
Good luck!
I have seen the Janis Joplin stamp and know which ones you mean: Buddy Holly, Elvis, Bill Haley... I have that set from 1993 but right now I am looking for stamps showing musicians who have a bit more punch. Janis Joplin would qualify though.
Not counting all the semi-illegal garbage coming from Chad, Guyana etc. it turns out there are quite a few stamps showing interesting rock groups or related images. A few more examples (more stamps I need to find!)
Bill Haley and the Comets and the Blackboard Jungle i was there ! Took me a while to raise $23 for a black leather jacket !

Most of the time that's the case and although I have not made it so explicit, it is my modus operandus when it comes to collecting topical stamps: it has to be relevant to the country that issued the stamps. Fortunately I have not chosen to only collect stamps that show rock artists whom I have seen perform live, otherwise my collection would have been very small! Not everyone is so lucky as Phil, to have seen one of the inventors of the genre, Bill Haley in this case. The closest I have been was with U2. I was in Berlin and ended up in a crowd in front of one of the fanciest hotels in the city (the Adlon where Michael Jackson did his baby bungling act...). The rumour was that U2 was in that hotel and they would come out any minute. In the end it turned out they left through the back, so we stood there in vain.
I am not really a topical collector, but sometimes I try to combine some of my interests. For instance, I have a small topical collection on Vikings and the Early medieval period, and I have also looked at finding stamps that show rockmusic in one way or another.
Here are some examples I found while looking online. Now I need to find them all, still looking for the Finland heavy metal stamps...
Do you know of other stamps that might fit in here? Great Britain has done quite a few recently: Pink Floyd, Queen, album covers...
re: It's only rock 'n' roll...
