A scanner is a much better option. See below -- scanned at 600dpi.
If there is a choice, there really is no choice: use the scanner. No shades, never out of focus or distorted. Also easier if it is necessary to do some post processing of the pictures.
Scanner for everything except big lots or large items. And then a digital SLR, not a cell phone camera with a dinky little lens.

If you just have the phone camera, try shooting in RAW if you can, then adjust the colours after.
Lighting makes a big difference. Try shooting in natural light. Colours will look much better.
Of course it all depends on the phone. The newer models are so much better! I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It takes excellent photo's. I took the Pro Max as its stabilization is better than the others. I can't stand still at all, and you'd never know with the photo's I take.

I've been using my iPhone, but sometimes the pics have a mild yellowish shade. Any strong opinions?
