Can you do a closeup? I’m not seeing it. I have a few hundred of those I can fly-speck some day.
Thanks, Dave
I didn't expect them to be so hard to find.
I had both 136 and 136a and never gave it much thought.
There are often stamps you take for granted!
rrr....
the second one is the 136a. The first one has CL just below the hand and sword.
OK, so “CL” is 136 and “No CL” is 136a?
that would be the quick summary. 136a does not just have the initials, but the complete name of the designer in the rock. There are other things to look for, like the direction of the hatching of the hill at the feet of the sitting Helvetia. 136a has it to the right, 136 to the left.
Thanks. Still can’t see the bane in the rock. Anyone have a closeup?

Threads like this are why a good stamp forum is priceless, worth a heck of a lot more than a buck a month.
Thanks for the post. I guess a magnifying glass will be useful.

Agreed. There have been a number of topics where this type of info has been useful.
The greatest one for me is still the one by Michael#### that ended up as an article identifying the 3 different types of post-war occupied Germany AMG stamps.
Which begs the question…how about an edited/curated archive of “what’s this” threads? Anyone got an extra 20 hours a week on their hands?
Dave
That's a good suggestion and one that would be very helpful to many of us. On the other hand, you raise the crucial question: who has the time and energy to do this?

Here's an idea for the MT to consider...
I'd be happy to take on this Switzerland issue as a beta-project: to create an article that we could use in a searchable database (whatever we have already or something new). Some questions:
1) What format would I prepare this in so it can be posted/saved on SOR?
2) I'm sure it would not be 100% complete nor accurate, so how would we allow me and/or other members to edit/correct it.
Probably other considerations, but thinking maybe we could start something here.
Dave.
Surely all we need is the article written and then added to the appropriate page under the Articles section within the Home page Main menu? Lots of good stuff there already.

I agree, there are lots of interesting and informative notes,
messages, comments, and articles, to be found when one
wanders around the less travelled hi-ways and by-ways of
the clubs web site.
In fact, quite often an easy answer to the apparently most
vexatious query has been posted multiple times. There are
times when I wonder if someone actually reads or understands
how to use the club's search feature, or one of the internet |
"Google" sites.
Charlie posted a similar idea several years ago.
It was not implemented.
I just went to Charlie's old post

Smokin' Rockets Commander,
the Search feature does work,
just as designed ! ! !
The search feature works great, but it will miss valuable discussion that gets buried under the wrong Discussion Heading. I assume we are searching on titles only.
For example, the discussion about Switzerland 136 and 136a would never surface, as it is imbedded in "Stamps That Have Eluded Us"
See my further comments in the other discussion thread.

I'm sure we all have had stamps that have eluded us over the years. For me it is the sitting Helvetia (Scott #136a) where the engraver had the pluck or audacity to sneak his full name on the rock. I must have examined hundreds of the normal Scott 136 in all my years of stamp collecting. But today my luck changed. I found one! Well only because a previous sharp eyed collector made a note on the piece. But I still have a big smile!
