my gut feeling (not backed up by any evidence) is that this is a forgery, or actually a fantasy because there is no original. I thought of a possible postcard cut out that could have been perfed, but that would be a lot of work.
My guess is its a messed up 10sld.
The postmark makes it unclear as it covers the end of the / in the 1.
Does anyone know why the postmark for Jerusalem is in Italian?
Perhaps someone has a 10 sid that can be compared but here is an enhanced image, definitely looks like a 4.
The Horizontal bar of the "4" goes behind the Vertical. All Austrian stamps of that era that have a 4 are open at the top. The diagonal and the vertical do not meet, therefore it cannot be a 4 it is a 10.
Look in back of Austria - "Austrian Offices Abroad" and then Offices in the Turkish Empire.
Its listed as Scott #4.....could also be #7F
here are examples of Austrian 4's
I received this stamp in lot of Austrian Levant stamps. As you can see the value is "40sld", however no catalog that I have has any data on this stamp. The only blue stamp of this design is a 10sld. I don't know weather this is a forgery or a really messed up "10". Dose anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Terry
