These are bogus stamps from the Indian state of Faridkot.
I believe they were sold as souvenirs by the Faridkot post office after the state became a convention state and only used overprinted stamps of India.

I now remember I had another stamp from Faridkot some time ago, different design but sort of the same story. With this information I was able to find some background. They used to be listed in catalogues a long time ago, but were dropped when it became clear they were never used for postage.

Any idea what this could be?
I have tried a few of the usual suspects in the catalogue (Afghanistan, feudal Indian states), but without any results. I don't even know which side goes up!
