I collect it up to 1960 and found it like most South/Central American countries that many of the low catalog value stamps fairly elusive. I'm managed to collect about 70% of the stamps on the Steiner pages so far and its a fun area to collect. I don't go after the officials either. I've found the 1897 1898 overprints the most challenging to find so far.
Have fun with it!!

I collect it too, and issued two Approval Books in September 2021. (books are closed as I am winding down until mid 2022)

Sold close to 50%, which is not bad considering that Approvals seldom sell above this number. So I suspect we have a few collectors here looking for the low cost stamps. Most of the Latin American countries have virtually no market at the low end, so Approvals are your best bet (or float a want list).
I personally like the engraved stamps of early years but for some Latin American countries the problem is that they issue a huge amount of o/p. Not the case with Ecuador!

Ralph, if I win the book and then put the stamps in my album, I'll have a look through all the SoR stuff!! I'm sure I'll find lots of stuff I need.
Got the lot! Someone tried to snipe me at the end, but obviously I wanted it more than they did. After the lot arrives and I put the stamps in their proper places I'll make a decision on whether to try to collect Ecuador. I think I've already decided to give it a go, but we'll see. It's always fun to add a new area. There's a few expensive early items but not that many! I think I'll do a 1940 cutoff so I can stick to Vol I of Scott's Big Blue. The lot also completed a bunch of Eastern Silesia which I should be able to finish eventually. Since Scott's doesn't put them in their album I'll just add a couple spare pages to my Minkus Poland album sine it includes some of them anyway!
Got the Ecuador lot in the mail last week and put it in my album, filled a lot of the gaps! I'll probably stick with the 1940 cutoff for Vol. #1 of Big Blue. I also bid on and got another lot for Ecuador in the same time period. I got it for a fair price, again from Dan-the-stamp-man. It has lots of the early officials that I'll probably have to put on a spare page. I'm still not sure if I'll officially add Ecuador to my want list or just keep my eyes open for ones I "need". I'm sure they're many on SOR but I'll wait for the next lot before having a good look!!
I just bid on a fairly large collection from Ecuador to 1940 and am thinking about adding the country to my areas that I collect. I like the older stamps so I'm going to do a 1940 cut off and stay away from the myriad of officials. Does anyone out there collect the country who could maybe offer some advice? Is the country easy to find, expensive, etc.?
