Stanley Gibbons lists under Galapagos Islands 6 stamps for 1957, and 1 stamp for 1959. They are also shown here:

The 1961 UNESCO overprints are listed in SG as Ecuador SG 1207-1212.
It looks like the one I have is one of the 1961 overprints.
Galapagos are confusing.
1) There was a set of Ecuador stamps commemorating Darwin's trip depicting Galapagos themes.
2) There are the sets described in this thread that Scott lists as locals for the islands, although they were valid on the mainland.
3) There are stamps that Scott lists as regular Ecuador stamps but were issued only for use on the islands, and depict Galapagos themes - such as an mage of Lonesome George, the last tortoise of his breed.
4) There are stampless covers that whalers and then cruise ships have traditionally left in a barrel by Post Office Bay on one of the islands, which were then carried to their destinations by later passengers.
I am currently sorting 1 kilo of Latin America off paper. Just finished stage one, that is sorting on country and it means I have a huge amount of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Costa Rica to go through (and many other countries in smaller amounts).
There was one stamp that puzzled me. It says Islas Galapagos and has in small print "R. Del Ecuador" on it.
Is this just a stamp from Ecuador, or does this represent a separate stamp issuing entity? I do not collect Ecuador (yet) but think I will keep this one regardless.
