Are you referring to the lack of glasses?
Dan C.
He is not through painting yet and needs his glasses to see. Will add glasses at the end.
The pipe is in his mouth on the left side of his face, but the mirror shows it on his right side and he has painted it on the right side of his face.
But isn't that how mirrors work?
You are missing the whole point of Norman Rockwell's self-effacing humor in his paintings.
Note how he has made himself much more debonair and attractive in his "self-portrait".
The man was a brilliant illustrator and gentle humorist through his paintings.
Roy
He is painting exactly what he sees, your image in a mirror is reversed.
I understand a mirror reverses an image, to prove this to non believers, stand in front of a mirror and put your right hand on your right ear.
The image you see in the mirror will be your hand is on your left ear.
There is a mirror called True View, that shows the real image as a person looking at you would see.
The only "error" is the angle of the pipe in his self portrait compared with the "real" him and the mirror image.
It's supposed to be a self-portrait, yet it is clearly Bill Nye the Science Guy, not Norman Rockwell?????
" ... it is clearly Bill Nye the Science Guy, not Norman Rockwell????? ..."
I always wondered why Bill is known as Norn to his close friends.
Norman Rockwell's self portrait has a genuine flaw in the painting on the easel, can you see it or is it just me?
