I recently joined Colnect to make up wishlists. I was going to make up spreadsheets and type type type, but dang Colnect is a bazillion times easier and much faster. I just click on the one I need and then export the extensive data to google sheets when I finish a country or era. I prune the data columns and only keep the basics. I don’t HAVE to export to an external sheet, but after what photo bucket did to people’s picture inventory I decided I wanted a copy so that I didn’t have to worry about the data ever being held hostage.

Anyone want to friend me there?

I’m still learning the system, but no - have friends who are not paying.

I just click on someone’s name and their info comes up. On the right side of the screen below their avatar I’m given the option to add to my friend list

re: Anyone here use Colnect for wish lists?

Note that Colnect sells your personal information, from the Colnect Privacy Policy page...

"Third party vendors may use their own cookies to deliver ads related to Colnect, while you are surfing other websites. This is called Behavioral Advertising or Interest-Based Advertising. For example, Colnect may use a Google service called Remarketing, which delivers Colnect ads to users around the Google Display Network, based on their activity on Colnect."

You can block some of this behavior by disallowing cookies in your browser for the Colnect website but be aware that the website functionality will be greatly reduced.

And so does Facebook and a bazillion other online businesses. If they want to splash targeted advertising at me have at it, but that doesn’t mean I’m buying. I’ve gotten to the point where I tune out ads - they are just background noise.

re: Anyone here use Colnect for wish lists?

You are absolutely right. Facebook reported an income of $16.6 billion last quarter, not bad for a ‘free’ website. This year FaceBook quietly announced that it started helping advertisers target you based on your credit score. https://www.komando.com/security-privacy/is-your-credit-score-at-risk-it-might-be-as-facebook-gives-your-personal-data-to-companies/569275/

And I agree that there are a LOT of websites which treat you as a product they can sell. But there are also many sites, such as this one, which do not. For example, I have stopped using Google and instead use DuckDuckGo https://duckduckgo.com/ which does not sell my information or fill my computer with cookie files.

The point of my post was not to be critical of Colnet. My intent was to offer additional information on a topic which is often not fully disclosed or understood and offer a possible solution (disable cookies) for those who might be interested in using Colnet while protecting their information.
