This item was listed by a seller in Australia as "Sweden Mermaid Uniform Postcard S40". No catalog was specified. Given that Copenhagen is in Denmark, not Sweden, I couldn't help but wonder if the Aussie seller was confused, but the "Uniform Postcard" bit caught my eye. Could this be an officially issued postcard from Denmark (or Sweden). Unfortunately the seller didn't provide an image of the other side, but I thought the "S40" might ring a bell with someone.

Thanks!

re: Sweden Post Card

Hi Lars,

The "S40" seems to be just the seller's stock code.

Similar codes appear on most of his other items.

I think he just mixed up Sweden and Denmark.

Thanks, Nigel!

It did seem strange for there to be a postcard from Sweden featuring a Danish landmark!

I didn't know if "Uniform Postcard" had a special meaning in Scandanavia.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

As far as I can see it is just a postcard showing people in uniform.

And -

the postcard also shows an image of The Little Mermaid bronze statue

by Edvard Eriksen....

...a copy of which is here in my hometown along the riverbank in Greenville, Michigan!

Well, duh, THAT'S what he meant by uniform. I thought it was some standard issue or something. OK, so that answers that question. Thanks! (I feel so stupid right now).

"the postcard also shows an image of The Little Mermaid bronze statue "

Yes, that's why I was interested. I have a mermaid topical collection and stamps featuring Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" and the Copenhagen statue feature prominently, so if this was an officially issued postcard, I would be interested. The word "uniform" threw me off, but as Jansimon pointed out, there were just people in uniforms.

I followed that link. I had NO IDEA there were that many replicas! I will make note of the cities and do a search on "local post" for those cities. There just might be one or two that feature the statue! So far I have found 7 stamps (plus the selvage on a souvenir sheet) that feature the Copenhagen statue.

Thanks to Nigel and Jansimon for solving the mystery, and thanks to musicman for the wonderful additional info! (If you know of any Greenville local posts that feature the statue, send me a PM).

Cheers, everyone!
