Weren't there also some stamps from countries liberated from German occupation that overprinted Hitler's face? Can anyone post some if so?

I find that rather weird - it's a black bar, but over the despised despot's face! You still know it's them!

Odd enough for a regular stamp, but in particular the same thing on an "Official" stamp strikes me as bizarre...

Dave.

re: Hitler We Hate You Stamps

I was intrigued by the question of obliterated Hitler portrait postage stamp. I found this item on Alamy website: it appears to be a Bohemia Moravia protectorate, Czechoslovakia, issue from 1945. I did not continue the search, though. There are many, many issues of Hitler's portrait on postage stamps. Not a theme or topic I like.

For whatever it's worth, here is the Alamy Website image:

Thanks Rgbrito, hadn't seen that one before. I wonder how much was done at local levels vs national (or in this case regional?) And, if gadgets to do the overprints were distributed throughout the postal system or if stamps were recalled and done centrally.

Might make a great research project and/or presentation for someone.

It is not uncommon that when an unpopular leader has been unseated that stamps with their image were defaced for use until new stamps could be printed. Probably the most memorable one's were those from Austria at the end of WWII.

These and other socalled "Schwarzungen" are also some of the most forged stamps.
