I had post today from UK, sent 27th. Feb, Maybe the storms and security are holding things up more than usual.
I waited 5 weeks to get some stamps from a dealer in Spain but looking at the postmark, it was mailed 3 weeks after I paid for it. I have now been waiting almost 2 weeks for a shipment from Denmark which is normally no more than a week. My post office said it is probably due to customs being slow.
When I look at the receipt confirmations that I get from the Stamporama approvals, the average time for a letter to arrive at its destination in the USA has been between 10 and 14 days for the past few months. The other way around, yesterday I received a letter mailed from the USA at the 6th, so that took 10 days as well...
I'm in the U.S. and placed an order with a Canadian dealer the other day. With his confirmation, he included a statement that he had seen an increase in shipping time due to increased security. He estimated 15-20 days to arrive. It's never taken more then 7-10 days in the past. This world, it be a changin'?

'Let's make America wait again?'
Can I get a red baseball cap with that on it?
We live in interesting times. It's been said that ISIS and other extremists will be stepping up terrorist attacks abroad this year. We have seen what's happened in Europe this past year, and I don't have any problem with being cautious on both the mail and visitors / immigrants.
I have a friend with US government intelligence and he said that we have no idea how many situations have been avoided, threats that have been averted. No, the president and the government has no obligation to let the citizens in on sensitive situations.
This past week I was working to send two of our Shanghai associates to a seminar in Singapore. I had to investigate the entry requirements, as when they visit the USA, I have to write an invitation letter to the US Consulate for them to receive visas to visit.
Singapore's system is pretty easy. For visitors of no more than 30 days... No Visa requirements for main partners like USA and EU. An on-line one day approval for a large set of the world's countries. AND THEN, a formal paper process for visitors from guess where? The same countries (and more!) that our president is asking for extra security measures on... What are Americans missing here?
It is easy to blame customs when the mail comes from overseas but what about domestic mail?
I just returned a stamp to Hawaii after more than a month wait and canceling the payment, just to receive it two days later. Lost a CC out of town in late January and I just received today the replacement card for the second one they sent, the first one never made to me, last summer the PO lost an stockbook sent to me from a fellow stamp collector in PA, the PO manage to loss the shipment and the pisser is that it had a tracking number, how does the PO manages to misplace something that big (roughly 3x16x12), well I don't know but I did received several letters of apology from the Atlanta, GA distribution center telling me that they were trying to locate the book. I could go on and on but let's face it the USPS suffers from the same malady than the rest of the country and it is going to take more than words to fix it.
It is hard to imagine decades of reduction of resources in the USPS, combined with decades of increases in homeland security efforts having their effect only in the last two weeks.
I too have noticed the rise in "odd" mail delivery delays over the last several years.
"Neither hail, nor sleet, nor lack of funding.....ummmmmm"
The mail from the UK alluded to in my OP apparently arrived today, got a notice to go pick it up tomorrow.
My wife was home when the mail was delivered, this is an old story here, they NEVER come to the door to get the signature, not even sure they bring the envelope out on the route.
I won't gripe too much. This was one of my larger Ebay stamp purchases. A Great Britain Penny Black, SG #3 the worn plate variety. I needed it to fill in a space that has been staring at me from my British produced album . It has a gorgeous red Maltese Cross cancellation. One of those 'had to have' purchases.
I generally receive mail from the U.K. In five to ten days. I suspect that there are some "bulk" items, such as auction catalogues never arrive, however. Stuff from the Continent takes about three weeks. Hard to know where it's getting held up. There are about 15 flights a day between London and New York and that may have some bearing on the difference.

A Canadian stamp dealer perspective....
We are a bricks and mortar stamp shop in Ottawa, Ont. We mail out a bunch of on-line purchases, mostly to Canada, the United States, and Western Europe.
I don't think it is Canada Customs.
Canada Post has focussed its efforts on parcel delivery. Letter mail (defined by Canada Post as any mail piece less than 500 g, no thicker than 2 cm and roughly less than 30 cm x 25 cm) can wait. And it does.
Most of our on-line sales are covers. They are mailed in a 6" x 9" kraft envelope with a cardboard stiffener. Mail it to Toronto, two days. Mail it to a small town an hour's drive outside of Ottawa (Renfrew, Ont.), two weeks. I suppose the Post Office waits until there is sufficient mail to despatch a truck to Renfrew, or some other small town.

I am noticing it now seems to take a couple weeks to get mail from Ebay and internet sellers in Europe. A mailing from France recently took two weeks and a day, I am now anxiously awaiting receipt of a single stamp from a UK seller for what to me was big bucks. Mailed 3-6 with 'signed for' delivery. Realistically I know it is too early to get paranoid and that it will probably be here soon. It's still worrisome.
There was a discussion on Stamp Community forum of this issue with some posters saying customs delays in the NYC area are to blame, possibly due to staffing changes associated with the new administration. Anyone else noticing this?
