Last giveaway from me for this time round but it's a trip down memory lane, at least for me and maybe for others too !

This time you have to 'earn' your right to go into the WN Cap ! Surprise

Simply name your favourite stamp from Great Britain, any stamp or sheet, and you'll be in the hat. Simple isn't it ?
But if you tell us why it's your favourite or a sentence or two about why you chose it, your name will go into the hat TWICE !! Drooling So double the chance of winning !

But what will you win ?
I have chosen 4 items that may have a special meaning to anyone, but they all mean something special to me. Are they special enough

(Hey, I can get myself in the hat 8 times !!)

It was the year 1966 and England were one of favourites to win the Soccer World Cup on home soil. A set of stamps was issued prior to the Tournament. 'Come on England" ! They duly obliged and one of those stamps was re-issued with 'England Winners' inscribed and they were so popular that many Post Offices sold out within hours and the value went up....and up. Dealers and collectors gobbled up sheets and there was Philatelic Pandemonium !
Yours truly was 12 years old and my Dad got tickets to the Quarter Final against Argentina. I will never forget it. The Argentine Captain Rattin was sent off and refused to go for over 9 minutes. Memorable.
So here is a part sheet of that Philatelic frenzy...........(not expensive today as the value went down as much as it did up. But a great part of British philatelic History and with Cylinder numbers to boot !)

Image Not Found

Do you remember the first Pub or Bar you went to alone and had a drink ? Were you 18 or not ? Ok, you don't have to own up !
Here is a nice set of 5 'Pub Signs' from the Year 2003, all with marginal date inscriptions. all fine MNH.

Image Not Found

1971 and the Postal Strike Loomed. Disaster as so did Decimalization day !! Hundreds of Private delivery companies were set up to cope with the expected mess, while The Post Office were busy planning for the issue of the first Decimal Machin issues.
Oh Dear ! Worried
In the meantime, Harrison & sons produced this rather nice Sample/presentation Card with a 'Sunken' 1p Machin. But we all had to wait until March !

Image Not Found

Finally, my main collections are of British and USA philatelic Exhibition Souvenirs and the sheet that made me decide to 'go for it' was the one you see below. Beautifully produced by Waterlow & Sons with a quite stunning Penny Black repro with 'GB' corner letters.

All these are for the winner and there will be one nice item for the second name pulled from the Cap.
Draw will take place shortly after 'Giveaway 2'.

Good Luck.

What a great idea for a Giveaway! But naming your favorite British stamp is like trying to name your favorite child. LOL There are just so many favorites, but I think the one that outshines them for me is the 1£ 1929 Postal Union Congress stamp, (Scott 209), because of the sheer beauty and high detail and action it shows. Come on, how many stamps show St. George slaying the dragon? Plus it's on my "must have list" and that makes it even more special.

My fave GB stamp has to be the 1/9d 1967, Primrose stamp from the British wild flowers set. Plain, simple, uncluttered design, and always a reminder of those damp woodland edges from my childhood days in the Willingdon area of Sussex, along with the cowslips, orchids and blue bells that always seemed so abundant.
As an aside, I watched the England final with some friends and when we scored the final goal one, (John), kicked out in reaction and almost broke his foot on the coffee table.
Just loved Nobby Stiles and his somewhat madcap way of playing.

My favorite GB stamp is the Penny Red. I got my very first one just this year. I like the history of the Penny Red and one little fact that I didn't know for a long time is that they changed the color of the Penny Black to red because it was hard to see the cancel on the Penny Black. And the Penny Red was born. And so many different plate numbers. It is amazing one little stamp has so much to it.

My favourite is the 1966 Battle of Hastings set, with scenes from the Bayeux tapestry.
It is because I am really fond of medieval history and I have been in Battle several times, last time was Oct. 14th, 2006 to take part in the large reenactment of the battle. I was part of the winning side Applause

My favorite is another St George and the Dragon - the 1951 version. Actually, it's the full set of four - St George, HMS Victory, Cliffs of Dover, and Royal Arms. That cramming a lot of history and tradition in one small set.

Favourite GB stamp - the Turners from 1975, with the 8p "Arsenal, Venice" as my top. Of course, that's probably because I like Turner's work. Go figure.

...and I do remember the first pub I went to alone ... the (now demolished) Montcalm in Winnipeg, Manitoba. First year away at university in the '80s, with Cathy St. Germain and the Rage playing.
