The picture side of the cover..secondary for me !
Lucky you - my wife would have come back empty-handed, saying something like, "I saw this postcard with a blue and an orange stamp and some writing in Spanish or French or maybe Italian. I didn't think you would be interested since the stamps were still on the card."
When i TRY to find something for her..its "got it already!"
Haven't showed anything lately but I've been quite busy. Sorry but there's to much to show pics
My dad started collecting in 1936 and did so continuously until recently. last year he decided to quit and gave me the main part of his collection which consisted of U.S. and Great Britain and colonies. The other day he gave me what was left of his collection. It consisted of 27 albums and stock books, a pretty complete Canadian collection, and a Newfoundland collection that I needed 13 stamps from. His Machin collection is very large and the main thing he focused on in the last many years. There are many albums of these and I hope I will be able to make sense of them so I will not have to drive my self crazy trying to do so. There are also many albums of later mounted British colonies. Last but not least 13 unbroken packs of Varios and a couple hundred blank and quadrille Scott specialty pages.
Except for countries I don't care for, post 60's Eastern Europian and post indepedant Africa my collection is always kept up to date. Except for a flow of auction lots which do not take more than a couple hours each to process, this will be a major addition that will take quite a while to sort out.
Although dad quit stamps except for new U.S. issues, he's still collecting silver dollars. He is very active at 88. Last week he built an 8'X8' storage shed from scratch out of wood and this week he is building one for me.
Also this week I got something I've been looking for as many of you are. My dad found boxes of unused Avery 3 ring binders at an auction not far from here. He knew I was looking for them so he got a box of 3" and a box of 1 /34" binders. 20 new binders total for $10.00. Sorry if I would have been there I would have got several more boxes and try to find them good homes here.
I've also got many new auction lots.
I picked up Albainia #'s 20-26 which are the only stamps I have on that previously blank and expensive page.
I got a French Offices collection that added a great many stamps to that area. So much that I will have to add them to my online collection
I also got a very nice Great Britain #22 that was in a small lot of other better stamps I don't need but for resale.
Another is a super nice stock of early Peru. There were a couple I needed and lots of high value stamps to sell
ALso won a complete set of the 1873 Banknotes as well as another early U.S mixed lot with lots of goodies.
I picked up some later lots of Nicaragua and Costa Rica that should add more than 250 stamps to those countries
As well as lots from Angola, South Australia and a nice early Egyptian collection.
Life is good!
i can relate to the binders..and two pocket cover pages always are on the verge of running short.
My first unused Sea Horse...possibly my last as it gets a bit pricey for my taste after the 2'6. Time will tell. I just had to have one unused one -- 1934. Britannia riding high and kicking ass.
Cheers,
Eric
Excellent Winedrinker!
Britannia rules the waves!
Per the discussion we had on building your collection the way you want, I was looking at back of the book categories like Airmail, Postage Due and Special Delivery and decided I'd rather collect them on cover, providing the useage they were issued for.
That includes the Zeppelins, that I find particularly interesting on flown covers. I had acquired a 65 cent Zep on cover a while back, so when I saw this Baby Zep cover for a reasonable bid, I had to have it. I also have one of these in mint condition. Now on to find the other two Zeps on cover!
Here are a few treasures from Roy's buck a cover site (Stamporama's sponsor) If you're not checking his stock regularly, you're missing out on some wonderful covers!
These are covers with some modern Ireland that are rather difficult to find on anything besides a First Day Cover.
These se-ten pairs from the 1960s are the first I've seen on cover - again not FDC;
And this is a nice registered cover showing commercial usage of a hi-value Commem and a one pound definitive. The back has several registration markings;
I just bought a large Worldwide collection with 20+ Italian states
and US #1 on cover and a G.b #1 on cover
Here is some more out of the collection
My Dad collected and was the person who got me interested. I've looked off and on for a cover postmarked on the day of his birth, which is a thing he would have appreciated. I was aware that this exposition offered an opportunity but only turned up near misses until recently. One of my favorite stamps, and it made a pretty quick trip to Philadelphia.
First album page I looked at and this jumped out. I actually thought this was a sticker, not a real stamp at first... MNH, as was the full set of 1948 Olympics so my KGVI pages are looking much nicer now...even if I'm not part of the nouveau riche as a result.
Lines are an artifact from the scanner - the stamp is unblemished and crisp!
Nice looking stamp. It will look very nice in your collection.

Arrived tonight...not perfect, but have been looking for them a long time.
I still need the 20E.
rrr...
Really nice looking Ceres. I'm in the same boat you were until you scored these gems, plus I need the 2.40e. Seeing these gives me hope.
Just won this on Delcampe:
As you can see the colour of thr MC is far darker than it seemed !
She's a beauty. Love the Orange cancel and double A's. I'd think there would be a high premium on that color of cancel, it is not listed in Scott and it certainly does not appear to be Red.
Here is some more out of the collection.
Antonius:I have not received it yet so I can't be sure of the colour it does however look like a bit like an Orange shade.Trouble is it'll cost about £ 55.00 to have it expertised with the RPS.I have just send of a 2d blue(1841) with what appears to be Lavender coloured paper.just bought these this morning, the latest issue from GB post office
The juxtaposition of the penny black cover with the new animal issue struck me as humorous. Wow have times changed, eh?
At the recent Stamp Out Cancer Auction, I won several lots. But this was the one I really wanted. Blocks of four are neat but these are the GUMMED variety. It seems that in 1940 Secretary of the Interior Ickes (a stamp collector) took his ungummed Farley sheets back to the Post Office Department and asked that they be gummed. The PO obliged. He then went on to ask $2,500 in trade for a set of blocks! The PO later allowed all citizens to have their Farleys gummed!
THE GUMMED FARLEYS
My recent purchase is a bit more on the bulky side.
At my current pace, that's about 3 years of stamping ahead.

When my wife said she found an old Guatemala card..my reaction was ok i will take a look at it..when i saw it i could hardly believe it.. the card itself is of Panama Canal construction equipment...postmarked in Guatemala with 2 beauties from the 1902 Waterlow set...and mailed to Peru. the card was in a 3 dollar box..if a knowledgeable philatelic dealer had it in his dealer stock it would be a 20 dollar plus cover with those stamps.
