HipStamp offers a syc feature, but it appears to be undirectional. If an item sells on Ebay it is automatically removed from HipStamp, but it is not automatic in the other direction.
From the HipStamp website:
If you sell on eBay, you can automatically sync your entire store to HipStamp. Once you've synced your eBay store, any new items you add to eBay will be added to HipStamp; and best of all, if you sell an item on eBay, it will be removed automatically from Hip. For items sold on Hip, you would only need to upload a specified file on eBay and those will be removed from eBay as well.
Well that kills that idea. I'd certainly screw up deleting the Hip sold items on eBay!
I had wondered how they'd handle things like listings with multiple copies since I have a lot of those for first day covers.
Listing stuff on multiple sites is quite common and there are tools you can pay for that manage inventory between eBay, Etsy and a couple other sites (not Hip Stamp) that the "used left sock" crowd get all excited about.
Just for the heck of it, a few months ago, I posted 10 stamps on Ebay (not in auction). I posted the same stamps on HS at the same time. Since then only two of them have sold on Ebay (and only 2 views so far on the other 8). As soon as they sold, I removed the HS listings for those 2 stamps.
In the unlikely event there was a near simultaneous buy of a stamp I would honor the first buyer, and contact the other. I would explain that on occasion I might have the same stamp for sale on two different sites. I would, obviously, offer a quick refund, or offer a substitute if duplicates were available in my inventory. Depending on the value of the stamp, I might offer a future discount on a purchase.
I think buyers will understand this, and don't think it is in any way an ethical issue for sellers.
I only did this as a test. I will likely not do it very often, if at all.
I tried running a store on HipStamp for about 3 months (the free trial period they offered).
I found the sync process to have a lot of issues. Then I am the type who has to tick and tie in everything. Keeping track of both sites became a chore. I'd have items sell on eBay and occasionally they wouldn't get deleted from Hip. Items post on eBay that wouldn't get loaded on Hip.
I found the additional sales weren't worth the extra effort and expense to get them. Hip forcing me to use PayPal and thus being more expensive to sell there when I did was another factor.
I might run a pop-up store again for one month a year because in the first six weeks I did sell off a lot of old inventory..... but not as an ongoing endeavor.
99% of my sales are on Hipstamp. I sometimes post a few higher catalog valued stamps on EBAY - if I think it may generate interest there. Since I am doing this at a very low volume - I know when something does sell on EBAY to take the stamp down on Hipstamp and Vice versa. I can not imagine doing that for a larger amount of stamps.
Just an FYI reminder;
Stamporama Auction/Approval Rule G5. The items cannot be listed on Stamporama and be offered for sale elsewhere at the same time.
I don't sell here, so I don't have any skin in the game. But, I'm wondering why.
This is an exchange that I just had with an ebay dealer, no wonder I hate dealers more and more everyday.
Doing things like this shows a lack of professionalism that sadly many dealers use, some of them on this very site.
Sorry to have to cancel this order.
This lot was previously sold and listed again in error.
Please accept my apologies,
Stuart
I was the only bidder, sold to whom?
Tony
It was sold on either Hipstamp or on Facebook.
It was removed on eBay then relisted in error.
Stuart
Don't be so fast to blame the seller. I had a buyer of one of my stamps on Hipstamp last month. I could not locate it anywhere! Drove me nuts. However, I had sorted my sales of 2023 in Excel for tax purposes and, lo and behold, the stamp was previously sold in 2023. I looked at the sale and it came from a $1 start auction on HS I joined.
I contacted HS and they said I must have relisted it by mistake sometime after the sale at auction. There is no way I could have done this. 1) I no longer had the stamp....how could I post a scan if I relisted it? The only way I could have relisted would be to go through all my pics to find it....no freakin way! 2) I put stamps in those auctions mainly to get rid of them and at least make a buck or two in the process (the auctioned stamp went for less than $2).
It's easy for HS just to say I must have relisted it......how could I prove otherwise.
After their response, I went through all the stamps included in that $1 Start auction. I found one other that had been later "listed" by me and still for sale in my store (a cheap stamp as well). I removed it.
My point is.....shit happens.
"to err is but human"
"and to correct divine"
I can understand a mistake or even an error but when they are done on purpose that's something that I will never agree to.
I'm not sure what you mean "on purpose". He said it was re-listed in error, did he not? Can you explain?
Yes, I can.
How can you list on ebay, hipstamps and facebook all at once by mistake?
This guy is one of those that rather ask for forgiveness later that ask for permission first.
This is getting a bit long in the tooth, but he said he re-listed it in error.
I was not going to say anything but I can stay silent no longer.
OP, I hope you never make a mistake in anything you list or sell or trade with others. You are the kind of customer I dislike (Hate is a very very strong word). I bet you ask for special treatment, discounts, etc. from dealers too and are basically a pain in the ass in general. I hope you're not married because I'd hate to be your partner.
Yes, relisting an item by accident is not great, but as a 'sin', it's more venial than mortal in my opinion. Should they have taken more care? Yes. But we're all human and make mistakes. But you literally want to crucify this dealer.
I sold the same stamp three times a few years back, using three different sites, so I'll just shut up. Mistakes get made, payments get refunded, life moves on.
I really had no idea what I was starting here - almost as controversial as kittens!!
It's all Joe's fault
John, I agree!!! By the way, John always has great Canada material on HipStamp - check it out!!!

I was checking for a particular stamp and found the same item on both HipStamp and E-Bay. What if the item sell on one site? I assume he would withdraw it from the other site, but what if he/she wasn't able to do it fast enough and someone bought the other item. This could happen very easily if the item was fairly priced and both sales happened overnight, for example. It's difficult to withdraw an item if it is sold! So, my question, is it right to even do this? Opinions, because I think this is often done?
