Can someone explain where Gibbons starts Indonesia section in their catalog. From what I see on Colnect, they do not restart numbering like Scott (1948), Michel (1948), or Yvert (1950). Scott starts with Vienna issues and Michel starts with Queen Wilhelmina overprints.

re: Indonesia

Hi angore,

Here's the structure of SG's Indonesia listings (from SG Part 21 South East Asia):

Indonesian Republic 1945-49
- I - Issues for Java and Madura: J1-J78
- II - Issues for Sumatra: S1-S179

Netherlands Indies (1864-1945): 1-466

Japanese Occupation
- I - Java: 1-14
- II - Sumatra: 15-71
- III - Japanese Naval Control Area: 80-162

Dutch Rule Restored (1945-48): 467-531
- Indonesia: 532-573

United States of Indonesia: 574-601

Indonesian Republic (1950 onwards): 602 onwards

Riau-Lingga Archipelago: 1-41

West Irian: 1-54

South Moluccas: 1-17

SG don't list the later South Moluccas stamps.

The basic order follows the main sequence of control:
i.e. Dutch, Japanese, Dutch, Autonomy, Independence

This is preceded by the local republican issues during the conflict with the Netherlands and followed by issues for three specific areas.

re: Indonesia

Thanks.

This is Indonesia Scott 1 but Colnect does have SG numbers for these.

From FICC website:
This run of stamps, listed under Indonesia in Scott, has not been found in Gibbons Part 21 (South-East Asia) or Part 4 (Benelux). Minkus states that these stamps "were printed abroad during the blockade of the Republic of Indonesia by the Netherlands. … According to the PTT of Indonesia, a great part of the documents relating to the stamps were lost during that turbulent time. The stamps inscribed REPOEBLIK were prepared for sale on Dec 15 1948 and reported issued Aug 17 1949 (in the) UPU bulletin of Aug 1951."

There is a long note about these issues at the start of the SG section "Indonesian Republic 1945-49" but they do not list them.

I also found this link on SOR. I saw elsewhere that Scott did not list these until 2008.

re: Indonesia

The key information I learned was that until Scott iisted the Vienna issues that Scott continued Netherland Indies numbering (like SG) so there was no Indonesia Scott 1. After Scott listed them, they assigned the scott no 1 listing. Now, I will be looking to purchase an Indonesia collection,
