If the stamp was free, the shipping is still a lot unless you can do a local pickup.
You gotta wonder what the seller has been smoking!
I like to send a message "I have 4 of that same rare stamp. I'd be willing to sell them to you for $1,000 each so you can easily quadruple your investment".
The seller is either "trolling for idiots", a total idiot himself, laundering money (unlikely) or just having a laugh. I go for choice #1 but really find it hard to believe anyone would bite who has any common sense whatsoever!!
This is an eBay seller, no doubt fed up with the million dollar common stamps. He put these items out there for folks looking for values on these stamps.
I really have to wonder if anyone falls for these listings.
I would think most look for a specific stamp they want by a catalog number, then sorting the results to see which are the cheapest price and go from there.
Most of these listings that I see have no catalog numbers so wouldn't come up in a basic search.
The primary way I ever see them myself is that I used to look through worldwide - collections & lots category on eBay and then sort by highest to lowest. However, a majority of the expensive listings are stamps like this, or very cheap old collections worth $10 that someone's asking $10000+ for.
One of the worst examples I ran into was someone who had a large collection of newer mint Canada stamps - really very little actual value except as postage. He had a ridiculous cost on his "amazing" collection of over $1 000 000. I e-mailed him to try to talk sense into him and he got very offensive and abusive. I'll never do that again!!!

Always suspicious. Is this a way to launder money? Or to move it out of a country? Avoid lower profits to avoid taxes?
Someone's spouse is making them sell their stamp collection, and they are maliciously complying...

I haven't been on ebay in a long time. I used to get some awesome deals from people who had no clue what they were selling.
But this link just made my day. Got a great laugh!
