This is not about this increase you are discussing. I recently sent a small amount of cash (well disguised) to a seller here who does not accept PayPal. I went to the local post office and said the usual - "could you please put US postage on this". By the way, I am in Canada. The rate had recently gone up from $1.30 to $1.50, I think these numbers are right. The clerk didn't know about the increase and only put on $1.30. It took a very long time to reach the seller and when it arrived the stamp was circled but thankfully it was passed through eventually. I almost was at the point of re-sending the cash since I really wanted the items. I wonder how often this sort of thing happens.
The postal rate for a regular sized envelope from Canada to the USA weighing up to 30g is still CDN $1.30 plus applicable taxes. If the proposed rates are approved they will become effective May 6.
Not sure what happened then!! All I can tell you is what the seller told me, since I don't sell I pay very little attention to rates. You are right though, I looked on line and the rate was still $1.30 so I'm really not sure why there was a potential problem!
Easiest investment return on the planet!
A couple thousand P stamps tucked away for 2 months. 92c to 99c - 7.6% return, annualized approximately 46% per annum!
Of course, you have to be a big postage user to benefit. (My postage use is around C$2,000 per month).
I wonder when they will pull the P's off the market like they did when they hiked the P's from 63c to 92c (I think that was the time when they hid them under the counter, on orders from on high.)

The local post here is Australia goes up from $1-20 to $1-50 at the beginning of April not sure about international post .AP not making enough money on letters ,but not telling how much they are making on parcels ,which deliveries have skyrocketed .But they keep churning out new issues ??

The new proposed rates would take effect May 6, 2024.
The price of a single stamp for a domestic letter (30 grams or less) would increase from $1.07 to $1.15.
For stamps purchased in a booklet, coil or pane, which represent the majority of stamp sales, the rate would increase by seven cents, to 99 cents per stamp.
The proposed rate changes would also affect other products, including U.S., international letter-post and domestic Registered Mail items.
I have been unable to find any information on what the increased prices will be for U.S., international letter-post and domestic Registered Mail items.
NOTE: Postage Stamp prices quoted are before tax which is charged on the purchase of Canadian postage stamps.
The current tax rates are:
5% (GST) in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon
13% (HST) in Ontario
15% (HST) in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island
