USA - used cover:

So, 2024 start and mail continue to arrive, little bit "slow on the road", but come (actually, full month it used) to my desk!

Nothing special to mention about few envelope that arrive in first two weeks in 2024, but one envelop made me thinking that Philately is alive!

This sample come from NOVA 220, as I'm not completely familiar with US cities, probably it is name of one there (at least that's what the cancel on cover shows).

The nice machine cancel applied, very surprisingly this days, when almost all mail will go out without any cancel used. Clear and visible, date 27 Dec 2023, and "happy Holidays" text, with "clear" Santa Claus there!

Sender even used this nice "Flower" (Poinsettia) issue from year 2018, Scott catalog number 5311.

Need to say that it have no serious catalog value, as same catalog list it as 0.50 US$ per used sample, probably one or two $ up, if it is on cover with "good" cancel applied.

So, why I mention it, at all? Because, we (people who "Know What Philately Is), still care, when sending mail, to do it in proper way! (properly placed on cover, clean cancel applied, and nice slogan cancel used).

So, Enjoy in Philately! Good start of the year I hope!

re: USA - machine cancel:

NOVA is an abbreviation for NOrthern VirginiA. (VA is the postal abbreviation for Virginia).

NOVA would be a mail sorting center where mail is received and then organized to be sent on its way.

Northern Virginia is essentially the area just south of Washington DC and across the Potomac River, and was the site of much fighting during the American Civil War.

For folks who collect military postal history, the December 2023 PM is during a time of military action, even though it has no specific connection to a unit. Nice to see our global forever stamps being used.

I'd keep it.
