Much better than socks and underwear! Happy Birthday!
Nice gift for you to splurge on, Tom!
It's a really important series of stamps and for the longest time I had up to the $1 used only and didn't have the last 4 at all. Then about 6 months ago, I think, one of the sellers here, Carl I believe, offered the $2, $3, $4 and $5 in mint hinged condition. It was during the time period I was making payments on the BC collection and I didn't have a huge amount of spare money hanging around. But the seller again was willing to take payments so I took the plunge picking up the last 4 in the Columbian series and the last two in the Trans-Mississippi series. It was tough to spend the money but the price was very reasonable and it was a once in a life time chance, so no regrets!
Happy Birthday! A lovely gift, and a nice addition to your collection.

A super Birthday gift !!!! Happy Birthday !!! Now remember make a Christmas list !!!!!
I have been working on my Columbians...
My birthday was recently and instead of socks and underwear, I got meself a $3 Columbian. My wife got to present it to me in a card in front of my offspring. None of the witnesses understood the significance, it might as well have been a used wad of gum. But I get it!
It's a proof but after the steep prices I paid for the $1 and $2 I thought it would be fine to include a proof in my set. And depending what I come across when I'm ready I might just do the same with the $3 and $5 stamps... at least that row would be the proofs!
And for the life of me, I don't understand that proofs are less than the stamps. You'd think they were distributed in lower quantities... but hey what do I know!
