I have seen this as well, on many different sites.
Could it be a way of money laundering? Receiving money for stamps is of course a method to move funds to your bank account without having to answer difficult questions.
Just surfing the web it appears money laundering is rife on eBay - a seller offers a stamp at a ridiculous price that is purchased by an accomplice to hide funds obtained from illegal activity. via Reddit
I lived in Nevada for most of my life, I noticed in the small casinos people would put in hundred dollar bills into a machine then cash out and at the casino bank. I think this was some way to turn dirty money into clean money.
Very common on Facebook Marketplace too.
Just for fun I checked an auction site last night for rare stamps.
There was alot of common low value stamps listed as rare and super rare and starting bid in the hundred and thousands of dollars, I just wonder if these actually ever sold?
