I think one could celebrate any way one wishes. But if we are not celebrating that our ancestors were freed from slavery, perhaps we could be thankful that our ancestors were not slaves.
Absolutely right! I definitely am thankful for avoiding a family history of slavery! My ancestors were lucky (?) enough to get out of Ireland before they starved (father’s side) and other relatives bailed out of Eastern Europe before the holocaust. (Mother’s side).
My point was that this holiday is new and doesn’t have any traditional ways of “celebrating”. Just in case - my comment wasn’t meant to imply any lack of empathy towards those who suffered brutally under slavery.
I didn't mean to imply that you were lacking empathy. It is a new holiday and I totally understand your initial question.
Awww no worries, my friend! Not a feather ruffled here.
It will be interesting to see what traditions develop. MLK day turned into Volunteering day. Hmmm, since this is about what happened to ancestors, I think it would be a nice tradition for all of us to remember our “roots”. Folks in my ethnic group don’t have an ancestors day like Asian cultures or a “dia del Muerte” like Mexico, so it would be very cool to do something like that. What do y’all think?

Juneteenth has been a state holiday in Texas for a long time. I believe (I may be wrong) that Texas was the first state to celebrate the day as a holiday of rememberance.
The way eBay is set up, I mark my item as "Shipped" as I'm packing items. It gets the item off my "Ship Now" list so I can focus on what's left. For the most part I pack in the evening, and drop off at the post office in the morning on my way to the office. If I pack on a Saturday night, it goes out on Monday. So be it. I'm not going to split hairs and go back into eBay to mark things "Shipped" right after I went to the post office. Haven't had a single complaint yet. Most of my feedback says "fast shipping".
As for Juneteenth... Yesterday I was having coffee at 8:30am and my work phone kept ringing on my cell. UPS and FedEx both left packages outside our loading dock. My construction project was still going. Our locksmith called and said he was here to rekey an entire floor. That was it! I wound up spending the day at work with the locksmith! I'm sure the holiday wasn't intended for that!
Confusing holiday... some companies, banks, post office etc closed. Everything else still open.
Many Federal holidays are business l as usual for many businesses especially for retail.
In the last company I worked for after Martin Luther King day was announced, they took some holidays (like Presidents Day, etc) and then gave employees personal choice days. We did not close for any of the Presidents, MLK, or Veteran's Day, The idea was to allow people to use them to extend vacation periods (Memorial Day, July 4, etc).
I guess I’ll be a day late due to “Juneteenth”. How does one celebrate “Juneteenth” anyways??
re: I marked auctions shipped this morning then - OOPS - Federal Holiday!
