Just did the Latvia stamps. I was lucky, the swastika water mark ( #113 to 131 ) showed up very easily and the other stamps were probably the wavy line watermark ( #135 to 154 ). And when I checked them it was fairly easy to see. I needed most of the stamps which was good. Again, thanks Jansimon! The earlier series (#101 to 112) is also a wavy line wmk. but with a different monetary unit ( "r" instead of "s") and I only have one of those. I don't officially collect Latvia, but I'll probably add it to my want list soon! It's amazing how the number of counties goes up!!
So nice to read this. I am glad I was able to help you out with these.
Jansimon, you're one of the few sellers who offer stamps from areas like this. It's been difficult lately to find stamps I want. So, keep 'em coming!! I've been fairly lucky with appraisal books but it's been a few weeks since I found anything I want in the auction area. I don't collect new stamps and the older material on offer lately tends to be either items I have or are from countries I don't collect. Sooner or later my luck will change!!
For me it is not that easy to get hold of stamps like those either. But I do have a few sources, so every now and then I accumulate enough for an approval book.
It is fun material, even though I o not collect those countries myself.
I do collect Baltic States / area until 1940.
Over the years, Jan has offered many stamps from the Dutch colonies. I have filled in many spaces with those. When you find someone offering stamps from uncommonly offered areas, bookmark them!
I live very near the Dutch navy harbour Den Helder. Until recently it was customary for those serving in the navy to serve a few years in "the West", meaning the Antilles and Suriname. As a result there was a lot of mail going to and fro. Add to that the diaspora of people from the colonies that moved over here and you will understand that there is ample supply of stamps from the colonies, especially in this part of the country.
It is true, I do try to offer these as much as possible, since I know many here collect them. Four books online as we speak
Just spent an hour or so doing a group of Russia BOB I got from Jansimon. Hard work, but filled in quite a few gaps and only re-bought one stamp. Not bad, great lot and thanks to the seller. Now all I have left of the lot is a good sized lot of early Latvia. I'm not looking forward to the watermarks, but once I get into it, it should be fun!! Back in the day, my wife used to do the watermarks. I can remember spending hours on a few early US stamps with her doing most of the work. I don't always realize how much I miss her until I've got watermarks, perforations or colour shades to check!
