That is a good thought, but in my opinion we really need the capability of posting responses for purposes of clarification, notice that the item is no longer available, etc. It is really no trouble policing the ads, and my skin is getting thicker by the day, so the abuse is tolerable.

If the poster had the capability to EDIT the post - they could add those messages to the original message. That would solve that problem
Hi Theresa,
I may be misunderstanding your comment, but the poster can always edit their post.

I was suggesting making the sales, trades and want to buy categories "read only" - except for the person who posted the message. This would prevent everyone from responding there instead of by private messages. This would save the moderators time and would prevent hard feelings with new members who don't understand this rule.
Theresa, I really appreciate your desire to ease the burden on the mods, but it is really a small thing to monitor the classified ads. I would much rather put effort into generating an awareness of the attraction of coherent, on topic discussions. So much really interesting discourse is lost in the miasma of trivial and off-topic comments. If we could convince the members to begin a new thread under an appropriate topic or sub topic when the "divergence urge" attacked their keyboards, the moderators, readers and contributors would all benefit immensely.
Wow beautifully written! Okie dokie will do!
Hi Tim
I notice how much time and energy Bobby spends trying to monitor the sales, trades and wanted postings. Would it be possible to make those topics blocked so that a person can only read the message but can't respond? I don't know anything about the programming aspects, but I thought if it isn't too difficult, it might be great for saving the mods time and also for preventing people from getting hurt feelings from getting corrected. Just an idea.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!!
