General Philatelic/Newcomer Cnr : Difference between Peterborough paper and Rolland paper?

I looked these two papers up in the back of my catalogue and it looks like the difference is in the gum. Peterborough paper has greenish gum and Rolland paper has white gum. Is there a way to tell the difference if there is no longer any gum on my used stamps?
