How sad. Beliveau was my introduction to hockey in 1969, when we arrived in Vancouver and I saw my first Hockey Night in Canada game featuring Les Canadiens. I fell in love with the team right there and then, and "Le Gros Bill" was my favorite player. Beliveau, Cournoyer, Lemaire: my favorite line!

Yes he was one of the great stars... I understand that Gordie Howe is in poor health.
Just watched the live stream of his funeral; very touching, although the Halleluiah Chorus at the end as they walked out of church was a bit over the top. His coffin was draped with a Montreal Canadiens banner.
Last night there was a tribute to Beliveau at the Bell Centre in Montreal, before the Vancouver game. I didn't see it (we don't get to do that being in Atlanta) but those who saw it told me it was very well done and equally touching.
Jean Beliveau has passed on. He was my idol as a young hockey player in the late 60's and early 70's.
