As a dealer, I receive a regular e-mail from Unitrade Associates in Toronto, regarding latest promotions, sales, etc. To-day I received my e-mail indicating that the 2015 Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps is SOLD OUT, and they will not be printing anymore.

Yikes!

Typically, the catalogue is released each November. The 2015 was just released a few weeks ago.

Are they actually being intelligent about not printing more, since they seem to have a product very much in demand. What's another 1 - 5,000 copies going to do for their bottom line? That doesn't seem like a good business decision to me, but what do I know? Maybe they made all of the money they wanted to make for this year and higher sales would put them in a higher tax bracket.

The cost of making another print run as against potential sales probably make this a business risk too far. The best solution is to increase the quantity of next year's run.

How many issues do they put out in a single print run? I don't get the point of not running anymore prints, if they KNOW they're going to sell out?

I wonder how many copies of the 2012 edition were produced. Appears that too many were printed and even now remaining copies are selling for less that the printing costs. I suppose Unitrade doesn't want to lose again. Just how many collectors of Canada are buying the catalog?

re: Unitrade Canada 2015 SOLD OUT!!

Obviously, I don't know how many collectors in Canada are buying/using the Unitrade catalogue, but I do know that it's popular in my stamp club, the BC Philatelic Society. It's a rare monthly club auction that doesn't have at least one older copy in it, and they often don't sell because they're older. If any Stamporama members collect Canada, the Unitrade catalogue is a must-have. FvH Stamps in Vancouver always has a selection of older (and new) catalogues available; they do a brisk mail-order business. Tell them that Bob sent you. (On the other hand, don't tell them Bob sent you! Bob and FvH don't always see eye-to-eye!)

re: Unitrade Canada 2015 SOLD OUT!!

I just checked out Unitrade's website and have to say that it is not user friendly. There's no mention is made that the 2015 edition is sold out. Many of the items listed have no descriptions - especially the literature section. The 2015 edition does appear to be available from some dealers - $45.95 plus shipping.

The cost for printing catalogs of 600 - 700 pages in full color does become less expensive per book as the quantity (same print run goes up. We're talking about tens of thousands. And I will be surprised if that many are printed. I could be wrong. Anyone have contacts there to find out???

re: Unitrade Canada 2015 SOLD OUT!!

Hi--just spoke to my contact at Unitrade--apparently there are a few (less than a 100) left in stock--normally they do not sell out until Feb or Mar.following release in late Oct or early Nov.The press run was essentially the same as last year.
Of course some dealers may still have stock.
I am glad that I went in to their warehouse a couple of weeks ago(I live about an hours drive away) and picked up 12 copies--my own, copies for two of the clubs I belong to and the rest for club members who had approached me when they heard that I was going into the city to buy materials at Unitrade.(I am not a dealer)
Picking them up saves a lot on shipping charges and the catalog is getting heavier every year--over 700 pages in the 2015 edition.

My understanding is that they were stuck with more 2014 copies, last year, so they reduced the print run, this year.

Incidentally, the catalogue is printed in China.

Sold out ?
I guess there are more Canadian stamp collectors, (Not just Canadians) that suddenly have enough scratch and flaming interest in Canadian stamps. I may want to replace my 2007 issue.. Probably another sign that the US and Canuck economies are bubbling again after the disaster of 2008.

If so that might be a precursor to rising stamp prices.
Time to fill in a few spaces while I can.

re: Unitrade Canada 2015 SOLD OUT!!

I was at the Barrie Stamp Club show in late October, but, was too early to get my 2015 Unitrade.

I decided to hold off anyway and keep my 2014 edition. When you stop to think about it, there isn't much difference between the editions back to back for any given year, at least lately, with catalogue values, of course there are some exceptions. What I am missing usually are the newer listings.

I will have to make it a point to reserve a copy of the 2016 edition. Personally, I really like the Unitrade Catalogue.

Interesting thread
