I remember a X-mas back in the late 1940s when my father added a "mail car" to the family Lionel train layout. The train did exactly that, grabbing mail sack from a pole set alongside the tracks and tossed out one as it passed by. The packing came with a pamphlet that explained how clerks sped up mail delivery across the nation by opening the sack they picked up and sorted mail for towns along the way.

Other articles include “New Haven Philatelic Society Turns 100.†In cooperation with the New Haven Historical Society, it produced 1,000 anniversary covers bearing restrikes of the New Haven postmaster provisional. The die had been last used to produce restrikes in 1932, to help defray club’s $1,000 outlay to purchase it for the museum. A sidebar article examines originals and restrikes of the die.
