I have been purchasing glassine envelopes from a local stamp and coin shop near where I live in NJ and mostly the cost was between $3.50 and $6.00 for a pack of 100. A few months ago after not having purchased any for quite some time maybe 6 months or longer, I went to purchase a pack of 100 #4 and was shocked to learn that the price had jumped from $6.25 to $10. I have checked on the web and see that the price is a little bit higher then in most other internet stores, but the internet stores are also a little on the high side too. Does anyone have an opinion or explanation? The increase seems a wee bit higher than it it should be.Crying

IMHO I think they are trying to make up for buying those God-forsaken, sucky side fold envelopes that have the flap along the bottom. Collectors despise them, so the suppliers are stuck with stock that no one wants. You can buy those quite cheaply! I have some 104 size that I'll gladly sell you, and I know Kentallpines has some, too. But, be warned if you use those in a red box every time you pull one out and try to replace it, it will snag on the fold of the envelope in front of it.

Hi rwarde;

@ rwarde;

Kentallpines is my old discussion board name, and is still my user name, however TuskenRaider is my new discussion board name.

Yes Theresa is right, that I have a mess of them, but I decided to use them anyway. Private message her to see how much she wants for her envelopes.

@ Theresa;

Brooklyn Gallery has the good ones with two side flaps and no bottom seam. here are their prices:

100/5.65 + S&H
500/26.75 + S&H
1000/37.35 + S&H

re: Why has the price of glassine envelopes risen so high?

I know prices have gone up tremendously on most products and services, but IMHO I think the biggest part of it is just plain and simple greed. Now with the USPS jacking up all of their rates on packages and such, it is almost impossible to find a good deal on anything, when you add in the shipping fees. I also have a bunch of glassines that I would probably sell, with or without writing on them and charge whatever the shipping cost are, no added fees. First, since I don't want to step on any toes, please check with the others that have them for sale first.
