Stan,
Not a computer whiz myself, but I usually have two windows open when I am on SOR, for jumping back and forth during the listing of auctions, or any other function. I also always have music playing on the computer, such as Youtube or Pandora, plus the program I use for all of my scans for the auction and then also my Scotts catalog.
There is probably a much easier way of doing this, but I don't know what it is and this system has been working for me. I know people that use two or even three monitors all of the time, but that's not for me, since the screen needs to be right in front of me.
Mike
What I'm talking about is when you click a link to an external site like stancromlish.com from inside SOR, I would like the external site to open a new window or new tab.
I usually have 5 or 6 tabs open myself with various websites, and I've learned when I want to look at an external site that's linked here, to use the right click menu and open it in a new tab so as not to lose my place here.
Thanks Mike for your comment, and I understand what you mean about multiple monitors. I prefer one myself.
Stan
Stan when I go to another site from here using a posted link, I just click on my browser back button and I return to the exact place I was before I left the site.
Hi Stan;
I know an easy way to do this. Download Mozilla's Firefox browser. Then if you have a three button mouse you should be able to use the center button to tell the browse to 'open target link in a new window', and it will do so with a tab.
On My three button mouse, the third button is actually a wheel, and called a wheel mouse. It is extremely handy because the wheel can be used for vertical scrolling. You can roll the wheel for scrolling, or if you click the wheel a circle appears with four arrows, like on google maps. then when you move the mouse down the page will scroll down until you get where you want to go, and you return the mouse back to the circle thingy.
If you do not have a wheel mouse, they can be had used for about a dollar at any large computer repair place. It is very intuitive once you have done it a few times

Stan if you are using Internet Explorer simply "right click" on the link, then choose either "open in new tab" or "open in new window" from the drop down menu.
In any browser, simply "right click" on the link and it will come up with options such as "open in new window" or "open in new tab". That way you can open as many tabs as you want and flip back and forth with ease.

The suggestions for using right-click are correct, but IMHO it's poor coding practice to NOT automatically launch a new window for an external link. All it takes is a "_blank" target in the href tag. It's really webmaster 101 stuff. Not hard at all to implement.
I also wish a target="_blank" tag was applied to our home page link listed in our profiles.

Is there a way to open links in a separate window/tab on a iPad?
Instead of just tapping the link, you can press the link and hold for about 1 second, and the menu will pop up to open the link in a new tab. I use an iPad all the time, and that's what I do there. Thanks
Stan
Oh thanks so much! I will use that a lot.....Sally
Stan,
It is a good suggestion. I'll add it to my list of todos.
Regards ... Tim.
Is this the area that I make a site suggestion? If so, I'd like to see links in posts open a new tab so that I keep my place in the SOR site.
I know the implementation is not that difficult as a developer to open a new tab or window on a link click, but I don't know if there's some underlying reason for not doing this.
I do enjoy how well the SOR site is designed and how well it works. The webmasters have done an awesome job in the design and implementation of this site.
Thanks again. And, if this is not the right location for this request, please move it to the appropriate location.
