The creators of the "Approvals" consisted of 5 individuals (emphasis on individuals) with widely (or perhaps "wildly" would work better here) divergent view points, each of whom came into the project with a definite idea as to how things would be done. The clash of wills was tangible and it amazed me that the project came together as quickly as it did (if 6 months can be categorized as "quickly").
We devoted a substantial amount of time to the discussion of "Categories" and to Reader's Digest that discussion here is next to impossible. Suffice it to say that we tried to do two things: (1) improve on the Auction Category listings, and (2) find a comfortable niche for subject matter which had proved problematic in the Auction listings. We are still tweaking the end result, so if you have suggestions for improvement, we welcome them.
As to your specific question, there is no category in the Approvals for "Europe" generally. We tried to identify and create a category for each of the major collecting areas in Europe (UK, Germany, France, etc.) and then two general categories to catch the remainder ("Other Western Europe" and "Eastern Europe").
Bobby
Not sure about the question here. The Auction and Approval book categories are exactly the same. Both have a category Other Western Europe, since the UK, Germany, France, Portugal, and Scandinavia have their separate categories. All of Eastern Europe has their separate category as well.
Arno
I'm sorry, but the category headings showing when you first go to the Approvals page is the same as the Auction categories, but when you start to create a book the categories are entirely different as you will see by the screen shot.
Where on this list do you see Western Europe?
Here is a screen shot of what one sees when they first go to the Approvals page:
My suggestion is to correct the categories list that appears under 'Add A New Book' to reflect those categories appearing under 'Approval Book Categories'.
Liz
You're right, Liz! Here is the category list as it appears on the home page:
Apparently, when we got to the list encountered during the "Add a book" feature for Sellers, we simply screwed up the name of the "Other Western Europe" category. I will request that Tim correct our error (however, if the entire name will not fit, do not be surprised if it comes as simply "Western Europe").
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Bobby
I was typing my response at the same time.
Tim fixed it, Liz. Thanks for alerting us to this.
Bobby
Thanks Bobby and Tim.
Bobby and Tim;
Perhaps you could take a look at Figure 1, Figure 6 & Figure 14 in the Stamporama Approvals User Guide.
Could these Figures in the User Guide be changed to show the revised Category headings?
Liz
Why are the category headings named differently in the 'Approvals' section than those in the 'Auction' section?
For instance in the 'Auction' section there is a heading 'Western Europe'. There is no such heading in the 'Approvals' section. I assume one should list Western European countries under 'Europe'. ????
