I'm a little baffled by my email status. Since joining I have never received any Stamporama emails, even though I have set flags on the topics I was interested in.
I have though, been notified of messages sent to me (auctions won etc.).
Having signed in to SOR this morning, I had a notification of 10 messages:
All of these indicate a 'bounceback' issue.
Could someone explain if there is a problem with my account? Or have I done something wrong?
I am now getting an Admin (bounceback) message, each time I post.
Hi Clive,
The messages going to your SOR Inbox from Admin are because your email account has had more than 5 email bounce backs. When you get more than 5 email bounce backs, the system will stop trying to send you emails. Instead it will send you a message to the SOR message system, including the text of the email that the system was trying to send you. If you don't want to receive these messages in the SOR Message system, there is a flag on your membership profile where you can turn them off.
Almost all the emails that I'm seeing bounced back are from Microsoft related email systems; hotmail.com, outlook.com etc. I'm trying to workout why. I'll let you know what I find.
One immediate solution for you would be to create a non Microsoft related email address to send your Stamporama email to. I would suggest creating a gmail account as we are not having any problems with gmail.
Regards ... Tim.
Thank you for your response. I think this is another nail in the coffin for outlook.com.
Hi Clive;
Tim is 100% right. Gmail is a great suggestion. I've used it for 7 years, and it's absolutely free. It has rockin' good firewall and spam protection. I used to get several hundred spams a month at Yahoo, but with Google's gmail account I only get one every several months on average. You also get to store as many e-mails as you want, and they will not delete. You can store up to 15,360 Mb, or 15 gigabytes!!
Keep your old email accounts tho, as long as they are free. Then if you decide to take advantage of free-bees on the internet, and know you will get bombarded with e-mails, just give them your old e-mail address. Only give out your gmail address on here and your closest friends & family, and important business contacts, or buyers and sellers if you also have stamp deals outside of SoR.
I use Yahoo e-mail as a cyber-trash can, so when I join something, and don't want pesky e-mails filing my inbox, I use Yahoo. Then later if I decide the thing I joined is not a problem, I can always give them my g-mail address later. Lots of options with multiple accounts!
Good luck and keep on stampin'

Hi Clive,
Could you please have look to see if you have the ability to create a "safe senders list" or a "white list" in your email program or setup? If you do, could you please add webmaster@stamporama.com to the list and the domain penny.mystampsite.com also to the list.
Regards ... Tim
I have received the bounceback message (I have hotmail) as well and I put the addresses on my safe list a few months ago, curious problem. I think I'll switch my e-mail on my membership.
Thanks for all your input. I'll have a fiddle to see if I can set up a safe senders list.
In the meantime, I have unchecked my topic preferences. At least the bounceback messages have stopped.
@Meghan,
So after you added SOR to your safe list, have you been receiving emails from webmaster@stamporama.com?
Regards ... Tim
I was receiving e-mails all along, and as of yesterday I got the bounceback message. So apparently this is a recent change.
Hi Tim: All of a sudden I am getting e-mail bounce back, not from e-mails I send but from e-mails that are sent to me. I have no idea what is happening to the e-mails I sent. I have had no problems at all until three or four nights ago. Sorry to be such a pain in the butt.
Cheers
Lyall
Hi Lyall,
You are using Hotmail for your email. Hotmail is operated by Microsoft, who change the rules on a fairly regular basis, that they apply to emails being sent by organizations like Stamporama. In most cases, they are not allowing our emails to go through. I'm trying to work out what the problem is so we can fix it, but the error messages that they are giving us are not at all helpful. I'll let you know more as soon as I have it.
In the mean time, I would suggest creating a Gmail account for Stamporama messages. We are not having any problems sending to Gmail.
Regards ... Tim.
Hi Everyone,
Roy has been looking into this problem for us. I believe he might have it fixed. The problem that I could see was that email servers that belonged to Microsoft (like outlook.com, hotmail.com etc) were rejecting email messages from Stamporama.com. Roy has made some changes to the email server that seem to have fixed the problem. I setup an Outlook.com account a couple of nights back to test the problem. When I set up the account, emails were definitely not coming through from SOR to my Outlook.com account. Roy waved his magic wand about a day back and when I did my test again the messages came through. I did notice though, that the messages from SOR were going through to the Junk/Spam folder by default. If you can't see the messages from SOR that you think that you should be getting, please check your Junk or Spam folders.
So, those of you who haven't been getting email through over the last couple to three weeks, especially if you are using a Microsoft email service (outlook.com, hotmail.com etc) please check to see if you are now receiving mails from Stamporama.com and please let me know either way.
Regards ... Tim.
The problems that were causing many of our Stamporama emails not to go through seem to have been resolved. Roy and I have been working on a couple of changes to both the email system setup and the program that sends the emails. From what I can see our changes have worked. At the moment I'm not seeing many email bounce backs (rejections).
If you think that you should be receiving emails from Stamporama but they are not coming through to your email program, please let me know by posting the details on this thread so that I can look into your issues.
Regards ... Tim
