"I never mentioned it simply because I couldn't remember who I bought it from here."
The best "rating" system in my humble opinion - look at who sells! Good sellers get bids almost as soon as they list. New sellers will eventually have loyal followers if they list desirable material, price things right, describe all stamps carefully and ship promptly.
Perhaps next time try telling the seller you weren't happy. Every time I've (very rarely) had a problem, the sellers bent over backwards to make it right. I try to do the same when I overlook a fault or make a goof - especially easy to do with looooong lists of purchases from approval books. This isn't Ebay - we're friends here - club fellows - and comrades in philately. I feel that every sale is going to a cherished associate and I treat them as I would wish to be treated and I've never had another Stamporama member treat me any less kindly when buying, selling or trading.
I started buying and selling on Ebay in 1999 and stopped in 2010. During that time I watched the auction become less and less a buying/selling venue and more and more a "race for ratings."
We do not need a ratings system here as long as we have David Teisler as our auctioneer. You have a problem, talk it over with David - he gets results.
Yes, "tuscany4me", I don't agree either with a rating system for our club. Speak up if you're
not happy with a member's offering and I'm sure the issue will amicably resolved. If not, our
Chief Auctioneer will lower the guillotine oh so mercifully.
Please leave rating systems to other web sites. One of the big reasons I belong to Stamporama
is because it does not exude crass commercialism. Please, let's leave the flashing neon-lighting,
the blaring music, the wall-to-wall asphalt and traffic, and the tasteless displays to
soulless big business.
Peace and harmony - just a couple of the many loveable attributes of Stamporama.

P.S. I don't even like the "thumbs up" stuff.
Hi Everyone;
If a buyer is uncomfortable buying from a new member, then you should private message them a ask if they have any experience buying or selling outside of SOR and what is their feedback.
I'm new to selling on here, but have a combined feedback score of 950+ all positive from Ebay.com, Wensy.com (gone now), WebStore.com, eBid.net, Delcampe.net, eCrater.com, and Etsy.com. I have never received a negative, on any site. I have sold on all seven sites, and purchased on all but Etsy.com and eCrater.com. My first sale was on eBay in 2007, of stamps to a buyer in Finland, and I have been hooked on selling ever since.
I had one buyer who was a non-paying buyer and the site closed their account, for repeated offenses.
Another time a buyer refused to pay the shipping, and support staff canceled the order for me.
My first goof-up, the buyer said the bracelet for his wife had a sharp burr on it. I refunded his purchase price and shipping, and told him if he could fix the burr by removing it, to keep the item, anyway. I asked him to please not give me a feedback, as I did not feel I earned a positive, because I failed to notice a serious defect. He gave me a positive feedback anyway, and stated I did way more than would be expected of any seller.
I have gotten over the last seven years many e-mail thanking me for the quality of my items, and the quality of my very personal customer service. One customer from India stated that "you may not have the lowest prices, but your handwritten thank you note and super customer service matter more than price".
I recently sold to someone on here, and was just ready to pull the stamps and package them, when I noticed that the buyer selected two identical stamps. Thinking the buyer made a mistake, I sent an e-mail and said I will hold your order until I hear back from you. The buyer answered back, in a couple hours, and was grateful that I was so observant, and I was still able to ship the same day, the correct stamps that the buyer had intended to purchase.
Sorry everyone for the long-winded gloating session, but I'm very passionate about selling. I used to be a real estate agent, and loved what I did then too. Didn't make much money, but enjoyed what I did.
Time to go feed my kitty.
Happy collecting

i don't think we need a rating system. New sellers would remain unknowns until they're known regardless of the system.
we have one rating here: good. All others aren't here.

ye gads, I just read my own message, and I sound like Donald Rumsfeld. I've died and gone to hell.
"we have one rating here: good. All others aren't here. "
Just an addendum to David's statement that all sellers here are either "good" or "gone." The only problem I have ever had with any seller or buyer in more than five years on the site was a non-payment for a Scott's catalog I had offered in the auction. The loss was my own fault because I sent the catalog before receiving payment as a courtesy to a fellow member of APS. Nevertheless, after several communications with both the "buyer" and with David, this individual was banished from Stamporama (and subsequently expelled from APS much later.) Stamporama needs no rating system as long as we have the dedicated officers and moderators who make the club the best meeting place for collectors on the internet.

Clarity
I think what you'll find,
I think what you'll find is,
Whatever it is we do substantively,
There will be near-perfect clarity

And it will be known to you,
Probably before we decide it,
But it will be known.

I have made many purchases from SOR as well as many other Web sites other than EBAY and have never experienced a problem getting things made right when there was a problem. I recently received an order and two stamps were torn. I used Pay Pal and informed the seller of the tears and he promptly refunded me the money to Pay Pal no questions asked. I think true collectors are more than willing to make things right when a problem arises. Everybody can make mistakes and problems can occur unknown to the seller and buyer, lost checks, damaged stamps, wrong orders. I like many other members here don't think a rating system is necessary.

Hi, It's me, Clayton. I just don't know any of these new sellers. I remember buying a stamp or to (from some one new) I think back at the begining of the year and I have no recollection who, but I was not at all pleased with the quality of stamps I received. I never mentioned it simply because I couldn't remember who I bought it from here.
So any thoughts about creating some sort of rating to apply to "new" sellers? Not trying to be mean, just would prefer not spending money to find out who are better sellers? If that makes any sense.
And NO, I am not "whining" about it, just seriously wondering. Thanks
Clayton
