A. G. Ryman was the designer of many stamp issues by Gibraltar, including the 1974 UPU issues found in your booklet.
I haven't find out much else about him, except he was a native of Gibraltar, known as Freddie Ryman, had an MBE, and is no longer alive.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I had a hunch it was a designer autograph, but I wasn't sure of the spelling so my Google searches were bringing up diddly squat. I really appreciate the answer. I knew someone here would know who it was. Stamporama folks are awesome!
I think one of the best aspects of stamp collecting is the little sleuthing adventures we undertake to understand more about these little historical bits of paper. I love those "aha" moments when you finally understand. A great example is Bob's research about the cat on the Lindburgh stamp! Loved that story.
I have found a reference to Freddy Layman, which actually illustrates the type of work he did. The image is the best I can do, as the source is low quality. The artwork below was never adopted:
Description from the auction:
"1968 - Human Rights - Man Struggling for Freedom - unaccepted original hand-painted artwork endorsed 'Rough Design' by A G (Freddy) Ryman on cartridge paper 225mm x 300mm (image 165mm x 105mm) with pencil notes regarding the design and colours (image available) (Estimate price: £149.00)"
Here are two more from the same auction:
Description from the auction:
"1968 - Human Rights - Rock of Gibraltar - original hand-painted artwork similar to the accepted design for 2s value but in mauve with note that ïGreen would look niceî plus other notations - designed and signed by A G (Freddy) Ryman on board 155mm x 240mm (image 90mm x 155mm) endorsed Colour Rough with issued stamp (image available) (Estimate price: £149.00) "
"1968 - Human Rights - Hands in Broken Chains - unaccepted original hand-painted artwork endorsed 'Rough Design' by A G (Freddy) Ryman on cartridge paper 225mm x 300mm (image 165mm x 105mm) with pencil notes regarding the design and colours (image available) (Estimate price: £149.00)"
The Stanley Gibbons British Commonwealth Catalogue gives designer and printer information for stamp issues. Well worth picking up an old copy cheap! I still use a 1991 version.

Does anyone have any information on the person who autographed this Gibraltar booklet? The designer perhaps? I don't have any specialty catalogs for Gibraltar and nothing comes up when I google the name which I think is maybe "A. Lyman." Thanks so much in advance!
