Wow! Very nice! I love finding "foreign" cancels on stamps, such as this example.
I especially like this because it has a BC cancel, tying in two significant places in my life (HK and BC, albeit Victoria not Vancouver).
Cheers,
Peter
Linus, what great strikes! I have never seen these on multiples before and I have never seen the obliterator part at all.
After a little philatelic history detective work, I discovered these stamps were mailed on the RMS Empress of India. The cancellations were applied after the ship unloaded mail at the port of Victoria, BC on May 12, 1903. Just google "RMS Empress of India (1891)" for a Wikipedia article with more information and a picture of the ship. Linus
I have a large gold Royal Mail postage paid label with only hand stamped Halifax NS cancels on it...I see no British cancellation just the date of posting on the label I`m assuming this is normal but when I checked other Royal Mail labels I had received none of them had other cancels on them .......Cheryl
So these are in fact "Paquebot" cancellations although unfortunately the Paquebot stamp is absence. What a pity they are not on cover(or at least on piece) with the hand stamp.Philatelic vandalism at its worst!

The GB label you have is a "Horizon" label issued at the post office counter in place of a stamp and placed in the mail stream at the time of purchase by the counter clerk. This does not need a postmark as they cannot be used by the public directly and retrospectively and the information normally shown on the postmark is shown on the label. Presumably Canada Post are unfamiliar with the process and applied an arrival cancellation as a precaution.
Details of these labels can be found on blog.norphil.co.uk. and click on the Horizon label collective thread. Some Machin collectors collect these, but not many as they cannot be collected "mint" ( legally).

Thankyou Malcome...great info I have learned yet another new thing today...much appreciated
I would like to share part of my collection. I acquired these Hong kong stamps that were mailed on board a ship and were cancelled at the port of arrival in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on May 12, 1903:
