I often check my library, just a couple blocks away from my apartment, for information about particular stamps, but instead of taking notes or making photocopies, I use my iPhone to snap close-up photos of the information I need. Very handy! And — bonus! — I once found a packet of stamps that someone left in a catalogue, with a CV of about $35. I told the person at the check out desk about them, and left my number in case someone came looking for them, but no one did and I eventually sold them in one of our club auctions (but not for anything close to CV, of course).

Thanks to another collector, I found the website which I will try to cut and paste in here. It hasn't been updated for awhile, but as a 60+ year collector, I found a bunch of my orphans here.

I would suggest a visit to your local lending library.
After looking at prices for newer catalogues than I do not have, and nearly
having a stroke for the price of the reference, my son suggested the public
library. I did a quick google for our local county branch, and indeed there
was the complete 2013 set of Scotts. Two entire rows of Scott reference.
Having reupped my card, I now have two weeks to either memorize the info that
I need from this catologue, or start scanning pages.
