I have several dozen of these. They are Treasury Dept. /BEP Seals. They were used to seal money bundles and stamp packages (or so I was told, many years ago). I have never been able to independently confirm this however. Their are several different ones in size and Font.

Thanks Rev...it sure is interesting...think Ill keep it for posterity! I have another one you might help me with...it's rather confusing...an IRS Distilled Liqour tax paid stamp stamped by Canada Dry Corp, NY, but that is a Canadian Company???? It is def. a US IRS stamp. Cant find it anywhere. Sorry...stamp looks way better than picture....Pudge

These were commonly used to show that the US federal liquor tax had been paid for liquor to be sold in the US. The revenue labels were placed over the top of the bottle covering the cap. The idea was that upon opening the bottle, the tax label would be broken on two sides at the cap, preventing the label from being used again. It was common to see an open liquor bottle with the two sides of the tax label attached to the neck of the bottle and the center portion still sticking to the cap.
All liquor (this does not include beer and wine, only distilled spirits) sold in the US had to have the federal tax label. Imported bottles were no exception.

The red ones are common but collectable. Some collect them by brand, date, etc. Their are also a lot of theen Green (100 proof) ones out there. What you want to find are the Black or Blue.

And if it has "collectability". It appears to be an official "cut square" of a Bureau of Engraving and Printing" communication from the Treasury Dept. dated 6/26/47. It's fairly cool, but I cannot find it anywhere and I'm pretty good at "finding." Thanks, Pudge
