I'd like to endorse this idea.
I'm a member of two other stamp discussion boards that have this option. (Actually, I encouraged the second board to adopt it after I experienced its benefits on the first board.)
Its advantage is that, if one is more-or-less up to speed on the recent postings, then it's easy to continue to stay current at a glance by just refreshing one link, rather than clicking through to each thread. I have found this particularly helpful when I'm on something mobile, like a smartphone. I also find that I'm engaged in additional threads that I might not otherwise have read in the first place.
If it's not technically complicated to implement, I think it's a helpful enhancement. It wouldn't (or shouldn't) be taking away from any capability that's already here.

I don't know that every stamp forum should work the same way. I kind of like SOR having it's own character.
Webmaster:
Surprisingly, I'm happy with the postings the way they are.
John Derry
I'm with the first two; I like the ability to order by most recent posted thread. SOR can retain its own identity and maximize efficiency; this sorting would make for a more efficient access to the forum posts, IMHO.
Cheers,
Peter
I'll weigh in with Antonio and John on this one. I do not want to be like all the others - vive la difference!
Thanks for the replies
It would be nice to have it as an option, but no need to change the default setting. As for being unique/different, I do prefer the difference being that the community is better than the others instead of looking at the forum features
@Makazi,
Thanks for the suggestion. And thanks everyone for your input. Let me look into it this weekend and I'll see what I can do.
Regards ... Tim.
Tim,
I am on the side of leaving things as is. You list the date and time of the last post, so if it really matters to someone they can look at that. Maybe we should write the other boards and get them to change to our way of doing things if someone really wants all boards to be the same. I for one like them to have their own identities.

Don't be apologetic. We will discuss any topic into the ground, it is the nature of Stamporama. If there isn't something controversial going on, one of us will create something. And the cool thing is, we remain friends.
We at Stamporama are nothing if not forthright.
Makazi - That means we like to share our opinions alot in a friendly manner (whether or not they are particularly helpful or welcome). It is part of what makes me feel at home here.
Makazi,
You can always makes suggestions here. You will find people listen and then we all get to put in our input. They do make changes. I hope I didn't make you feel like your could not contribute or make a suggestion. The fact that we have a voice is what makes this board great. I happen to like the personal aspect of the way this operates and see many of the others as too commercial. Please keep making suggestions.
Pat
Hi Everyone,
I have added a new Posting List. It gives you the Last 30 Posting ordered by Time. I have also adjusted the Members Profile so that if you prefer to always go to this new Posting List you can set your preference to that.
Regards ... Tim.
Wow, that was quick work Tim. Thanks
You work fast Mr. Auld.
Fantastic!!! Thanks very much, Tim! It's very much appreciated!!

Actually, I'm reluctant to say this, but I thought this feature would work a little differently.
I envisioned it being the most recent (say, the last 30, but any number will do) posts, all together on one page, so that one wouldn't need to click on each thread in order to read the latest post.
May I show an example from another board?
Here is a link to another stamp discussion board, shown with the most recent threads first. This is like what we have here at SOR.
http://thestampforum.boards.net/threads/recent
But there's also another view available, to show most recent posts:
http://thestampforum.boards.net/posts/recent
This means that, by using this link, I can follow the discussions going on on all the recently updated threads at the same time. I hasten to add, because I hear the grumbling already, that this is not as awkward as it first seems. Once you have the context of knowing what's being discussed in a thread, it's an easy to stay current. I find this very helpful to use when I check in from my smartphone, and over time I've found myself often using that same view on my regular computer as well. Saves a lot of clicking and time.
Again, I appreciate that the way the software here is structured may not make this possible, and I very much respect and appreciate Tim's efforts altogether.
My 2-cents' worth,
-- Dave
Hi Dave,
Sorry my friend. This was as close as I could get.
Regards ... Tim.
Then totally not a problem! Thanks very, very much for looking into it!

I haven't the vaguest idea of what y'all are talking about, here.
Check the "Menu" bar, Carl. There is a new TAB named "Last 30 By Time." While it will not affect the way I used the Discussion Board, I am sure it will make life easier for others.
It turned out exactly like I pictured it, and love the new feature
Is there an option to get the "Last 30 postings" sorted chronological with newest on top and oldest on bottom, regardless of the section it was posted in? With the default view of "Last 30 postings" a thread from yesterday might be higher up on the "list" than a thread from 5 minutes ago, just because of how the section of the forum is higher up alphabetically.
I'm so used to see forum threads in chronological order (newest on top, oldest on bottom) regardless of what section of the forum it is posted in - from other forums I frequently visit.
Also, is there an option to "Mark all as read" to get a fresh start on the "New" markings?
